Unibet Set to Launch Indiana Mobile Sports Betting Product

Unibet is set to be the latest Indiana mobile sports betting option.

The Indiana Gaming Commission authorized the Unibet sportsbook to start offering mobile wagering in the state starting Thursday (July 30). Unibet has an agreement to begin doing so through a partnership with the Horseshoe Hammond Casino in Hammond.

The IGC signed off on Unibet’s license on Tuesday. The sportsbook’s temporary vendor license was issued on May 13.

Earlier this year, Unibet’s parent company, the Kindred Group, announced an agreement with Caesars Entertainment to give Unibet access to the sportsbook markets in Indiana and Iowa. The company already had sportsbooks operating in Pennsylvania and New jersey entering 2020.

Indiana Sports Betting Competition

Unibet becomes the eighth online sportsbook in Indiana, joining DraftKings, FanDuel, Caesars, BetMGM, BetRivers, PointsBet and BetAmerica. Unibet’s location at Horseshoe Hammond is well-placed; it’s about 30 miles from Chicago.

Last month, Indiana’s sportsbook and gaming fortunes were mixed. The sports betting handle was $29,783,580, down 20.2% from May, and the mobile sports betting handle was $29,149,096, down 21.9% month-to-month. The retail total of $634,486 helped a bit as there was no retail in May with all physical casinos closed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The total casino win was $105,061,605, again compared to $0 in May with casinos shut down, according to figures submitted by the state.

Before COVID-19 waylaid all U.S. markets for both sports and casinos, the Horseshoe Hammond was doing well in Indiana. In February 2020, the last full month of revenue before coronavirus-related closures, the facility drew $12,391,845 in sports betting handle, all retail. That was the highest retail-only figure in the state, though Ameristar Casino in East Chicago (partnered with DraftKings) and Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City (with FanDuel) drew far higher total handles thanks to their respective mobile sports betting deals.

In June, using in.CaesarsOnline.com as its mobile sports betting partner, Horseshoe Hammond’s total sports betting handle (retail and mobile) was just $54,946.
