ACC Football Betting Tips & Picks: Top Games to Bet Week 12

Quick Tips:

  • Bet Syracuse +9.5 over Notre Dame with SugarHouse.
  • Bet Wake Forest +7 over Pittsburgh with 888Sport.
  • Bet Clemson -28.5 over Duke with 888Sport.

One division is locked up in the Atlantic Coast Conference while the other can be decided on Saturday.

However, the marquee game within the conference this weekend has nothing to do with which team will win the Coastal, but instead carries even greater implications for one of the participants, with the other seeks perhaps the biggest win in school history.

Here’s a look at that matchup and two others of note in the ACC for college football betting fans.

No. 13 Syracuse at No. 3 Notre Dame

The line: Notre Dame -9.5 at SugarHouse.

The marquee game that’s getting the bulk of the national spotlight features surging Syracuse and its prolific offense taking on undefeated Notre Dame at Yankee Stadium in New York. This figures to be the Fighting Irish’s last big hurdle to clear on their path toward a National Championship Playoff berth.

For Notre Dame to continue its march it must slow an Orange offense averaging 44.4 points per game, seventh-most in the country. Syracuse has won four games in a row and in each contest the Orange have scored 40 or more points.

The Fighting Irish counter with a defense that is among the best in the country, allowing the 15th-fewest points per game at 18.7.

Notre Dame is expected to have top quarterback Ian Book return after missing last week’s game versus Florida State with a rib injury.

Book started quarterback six straight games for the Fighting Irish before being injured Nov. 3 against Northwestern, and his presence elevated Notre Dame’s offense into a more efficient unit with Book throwing for 1,824 yards and 15 touchdowns with four interceptions this season.

The Orange can beat Notre Dame and it wouldn’t be a seismic upset. Syracuse is a good team, with its two losses both close and occurring on the road, at Clemson (27-23) and at Pittsburgh (44-37).

The Fighting Irish are better-rounded, however, possessing an offense that can score and a defense that can slow the Orange’s frantic pace and prevent the game from turning into a shootout that favors Syracuse.

Notre Dame will win but not cover, so bet Syracuse +9.5 with SugarHouse.

Pittsburgh at Wake Forest

The line: Pittsburgh -7 at 888Sport

The surprising Panthers are riding a three-game winning streak and can clinch the Coastal Division title with a win over Wake Forest, itself needing a sixth overall win to become bowl eligible.

Pittsburgh’s midseason resurgence, which saw the Panthers begin the year 2-3 but rebound to their current 6-4 record (5-1 ACC), is propelled by a rushing attack that has emerged as one of the most dominant in the country.

The Panthers have put up rushing yardage totals of 492, 254 and 484 and amassed 13 combined touchdowns in the past three games, and their season average of 256.9 rushing yards per game is 10th-best in the nation.

Facing Pittsburgh’s stout ground game is a tough task for a Wake Forest defense that has struggled stopping the run this season. The Demon Deacons have allowed three or more rushing touchdowns in five games, including six apiece against Notre Dame and Clemson, and are giving up 5.2 yards per carry, third-worst in the ACC.

Pittsburgh’s ability to rush the ball with great success and Wake Forest’s issues slowing the run greatly the favors the Panthers. Pittsburgh wins a close one, so the bet is Wake Forest +7 with 888Sport.

Duke at No. 2 Clemson

The line: Clemson -28.5 at 888Sport

Despite battling an array of injuries, the Blue Devils have had a fine season, sitting on a 7-3 record (3-3 ACC) heading into its division tilt on the road at Clemson. Yet Duke will need a lot to go right if it is to chance of pull off the upset Saturday.

Clemson is absolutely rolling, playing as well as any team in the country -- including Alabama -- with the undefeated Tigers outscoring their opponents 267-43 overs its past five games.

The Tigers most recent lopsided victory occurred last weekend at No. 17 Boston College where Clemson completely smothered the Eagles, limiting BC’s offense to just 113 total yards and seven points to clinch its fourth straight Atlantic division title.

What makes Clemson so good and Duke’s challenge so great is the number of ways the Tigers can beat teams. The Blue Devils are going up against a Clemson defense allowing just 12.7 points per game, tied for first nationally, and a balanced Tigers offense scoring 45.7 points per game, fifth-best in the country.

If Duke is going to have a chance it needs quarterback Daniel Jones to play similar to his effort against North Carolina last week. The redshirt junior had 361 passing yards and 186 yards rushing, a school-record for a quarterback, in the Blue Devils’ 42-35 win over its rival.

Duke may be able to keep it close for the first half, but Clemson is too good. Bet the Tigers -28.5 with 888Sport.
