The 2019 National Championship was awarded the Clemson Tigers last night after an absolute beatdown of the Alabama Crimson Tide. Will these teams meet again for a fifth round College Football Playoff matchup? The oddsmakers at SugarHouse Casino seem to think so.
Both Alabama and Clemson have plenty of key pieces returning next season including their star quarterbacks Tua Tagovailoa and Trevor Lawrence and both are listed at +200 to win next season.
But who outside Nick Saban and Dabo Swinney's squads could be in the running for the College Football Playoff Final this season?
Two teams that were largely inconsistent but finished 2018-19 strong were the Oregon Ducks and Texas Longhorns. While each racked up four losses they appear to be on the way up and worth a look at +5000.
Both programs return their star quarterbacks from this season and are establishing themselves under the tutelage of recently hired head coaches that could have bright futures. More seasoned, consistent versions of Justin Herbert (Ducks) and Sam Ehlinger (Longhorns) could lead to surprise playoff runs as Mario Cristobal and Tom Herman made major strides with their new programs towards building winning brands.
Both ended seasons with bowl wins, and while the Ducks knocked off a talented Michigan State side 7-6 in the RedBox bowl, it was Texas that really turned heads on New Years Day. The Longhorns took on Georgia, a team that had days earlier been lamenting their exclusion from the CFP, and knocked them around better than any team not named Bama has in recent years.
There's absolutely potential for one of if not both of these teams to take the next step next season with some serious turnover occurring with programs that might start out ranked above them.
So, who outside the Top 25 teams with the best odds might have a shot to make some noise?

Looking further down the list, one program that jumps out is USC. Undoubtedly, the Trojans are a brand that's taken its lumps after dominating the national scene back in the early 2000's. 2018-19 was another down year for them as they finished with a dismal 5-7 record. OC Kliff Kingsbury is reportedly moving on to coach the Arizona Cardinals. There's doubt surrounding head coach Clay Helton.
But USC does have one thing: a sophomore quarterback that was thrown into the fire last season and can only get better. His freshman statline is nothing that flies off the page (2,572 yards passing, 14 touchdowns to 10 interceptions and a 59.5 percent completion percentage) but its also not bad for a youngster's first go-round in a Power 5 conference.
There's nothing close to a guarantee here, but there is a young, yet experienced quarterback at a program where quarterback's are often set up to succeed. We'll see if Daniels' career blossoms into one that finally gets the Trojans back on track or one that follows the more recent trend of mediocrity in LA.
We wont spend as many words on it, but another school NCAAF betting fans should take good hard look at is Northwestern. The Wildcats have consistently been one of the best performers against the spread in any sport. It's become abundantly clear in recent years that a Pat Fitzgerald-led team is going to fight for every single yard, every single game no matter who the opponent is.
The Wildcats put up solid fights against two playoff contenders in Notre Dame and Ohio State in 2018, beat the teams they were supposed to for the most part and knocked out a favored Utah side in the Holiday Bowl.
Any NCAA bettor worth their salt should remain very familiar with Northwestern regardless of what bowl they end up in or what seemingly "better" opponent they take on in 2019-20.
