NASCAR Toyota Owners 400 Odds, Tips and 6 Drivers to Back

NASCAR goes short-track racing for a second straight week with the NASCAR Toyota Owners 400. After last Sunday’s visit to Bristol Motor Speedway, the Cup Series stops at Richmond Raceway Saturday for the first night race of the season.

Although by definition both Bristol and Richmond are considered short tracks measuring less than a mile in distance, the two speedways couldn’t be more different.

Richmond’s relatively wide .75-mile layout gives drivers lane options and the track doesn’t have the towering baking in the turns like Bristol. The result is typically a race that features longer green flag runs and pit strategy.

For those who enjoy NASCAR betting, here are six drivers to consider backing in Sunday’s Toyota Owners 400.

  1. Kyle Busch (+250)

He scored win No. 3 of the year and continues his assault on the NASCAR record book. Until further notice, Busch will be a favorite at every track on the schedule.

He has won the last two Richmond races and leads all active drivers in average finishing position over the last ten races at the track with a 5.4 mark. Bet Busch to win at +250 and -167 to finish 1st-3rd with SugarHouse in New Jersey.

  2. Brad Keselowski (+650)

He could have easily won his third race of the season at Bristol if not for a late race stop for tires and subsequent penalty for not lining up in the right spot on the restart.

Keselowski hasn’t won at Richmond in the last 10 races there but he’s a top-10 machine at the track and was eighth and ninth in last year’s pair of races. Bet him to win at +650 and +160 to finish 1st-3rd with 888Sport in New Jersey.

  3. Kevin Harvick (+650)

At some point Harvick has to win this year. The Stewart-Haas Racing driver is winless in 2019 despite finishing in the top-10 six times. Harvick has five top-five in the last six Richmond races, four of them fifth place finishes.

Bet Larson to win at +650 and +160 to finish 1st-3rd with SugarHouse.

  4. Kurt Busch (+2200)

He finished second last week at Bristol for his best run of the season and took the checkered flag behind his brother Kyle for the second time in their careers. Busch has come from the back of the field the last two weeks because of poor qualifying efforts.

A better starting spot this week would go a long way in him claiming victory number one of 2019. Bet Kurt Busch to win at +2200 and +550 to finish 1st-3rd with SugarHouse.

  5. Martin Truex Jr. (+800)

There is still a big goose egg next to Truex Jr.’s career win column when it comes to short tracks in the Cup Series. It’s a mark he wants to achieve as a personal accomplishment.

He’s come close a couple times and has two third-place finishes on his resume. Bet him to win at +800 and +200 to finish 1st-3rd with 888Sport.

  6. Jimmie Johnson (+2500)

There are signs the seven-time champion is starting to come out of his elongated slump. Johnson has put together back-to-back top-10 finishes.

Seven times in the last nine races Johnson has posted a top-10 finish at Richmond. Bet Jones to win at +2500 and +600 to finish 1st-3rd with 888Sport.

2019 Toyota Owners 400 Betting Tip

An overriding theme of the season has been the new rules package introduced this year as teams do their best to adapt each week on the schedule. The consensus thought of the impact at Richmond speeds will again be higher than in the past and on track passing could be at a premium.

If so, pit road becomes an important focal point again and mistakes will eliminate a driver from competing for a top finishing spot. So far this year speeding on pit road and violations for an uncontrolled tire rolling out of a pit stall have cost several drivers opportunities to win.

Not surprisingly Team Penske, which as three wins in the first eight races, has been one of the best on pit road as has Kyle Busch.

Track position has also taken on added importance in terms of starting spots. Last week, Harvick was penalized for failing inspection and forced to start the race at the rear of the field, a challenge who could not overcome.

In 135 total Richmond races, 24 have been won from the pole with 14 coming from the second starting spot. Keep a close eye on qualifying and Saturday night’s lineup.
