No. 1 Pick: Zion Williamson, Duke

The Bet: -10000 at PointsBet

We’re surprised this prop is still on the board. Williamson has been the no-brainer, no-doubt first pick since he returned from that knee scare in February.

The New Orleans Pelicans will enter their rebuild with Williamson, Jrue Holiday and the return they got from the Lakers in the Anthony Davis deal.

Williamson is the pick at No. 1. There are no other options.

Duke Players in Top 10

The Bet: Over 2.5 in Top 10 -715 with PointsBet

This one is essentially a Cam Reddish bet.

With Williamson going first and R.J. Barrett all but locked in at No. 3 to the New York Knicks, Reddish’ draft status will influence two bets (see below). Reddish had a miserable freshman season at Duke, but in such a weak draft class there’s little doubt a team will take a flier on his upside and potential in the top-10.

The Hawks have a need on the wing and two top-10 picks. He seems a likely bet to go there if he falls past Chicago at 7.

Cam Reddish
Cam Reddish at No. 5 cashes several overs on prop bets.

Duke Players in Top 5

The Bet: Under 2.5 in Top 5 -371 with PointsBet

That being said, Reddish going top-5 feels like a reach. The top 3 (Williamson, Ja Morant, Barrett) are locked in and Texas Tech’s Jarrett Culver feels like a good bet to go in the top-5.

That leaves just one slot – either the Pelicans at 4 or the Cavaliers at 5 – and players like Vanderbilt’s Darius Garland or Virginia’s De’Andre Hunter are much safer plays.

Reddish should fall in the 7-10 range. If you think Cleveland may roll the rice on a high-rish, high-reward player, that’s likely the only way Reddish goes top-5.

International Players in the Top 10

The Bet: Over 0.5 -200 with PointsBet

Sekou Doumbouya elevated his draft stock after a June 8 workout in front of NBA scouts and general managers. He was already a fringe top-10 prospect but that workout, combined with the lack of star power in this year’s class, likely has elevated him into the top-10.

Washington could take a flier on him, especially after dealing Otto Porter Jr. at last year’s deadline and having two power forward (Jabari Parker and Bobby Portis) set to hit free agency this summer.

Doumbouya also had a private workout with the Bulls, and he might be in play at No. 7. He’s the only international prospect who could go top-10.

Freshmen in the Top 10

The Bet: Over 5.5 -200 with PointsBet

It’s a surprisingly freshman-light class at the top, but that doesn’t mean we expect the number to dip below six. Williamson, Barrett, Garland and White feel like top-10 locks.

Again, Reddish’s potential should have him off the board before No. 11. That’s five, and it’s likely that one of Washington or Atlanta takes one of the remaining freshman. In this mock, it’s Hayes to the Hawks. He’d be a perfect complement to forward John Collins and has seen his stock rise in the past few weeks.

Jaxson Hayes
Texas center Jaxson Hayes would be the sixth freshman in the top 10.

ACC Players in the Top 10

The Bet: Over 4.5 -400 with PointsBet

This is our favorite bet on the board right now. Top-10 locks include Williamson, Barrett, Hunter and North Carolina guard Coby White. If we also assume that Reddish will go in the top-10, that’s five from the ACC (and much better odds than betting three Duke players will go top-10).

It’s not impossible that North Carolina’s Nassir Little or Virginia Tech’s Nickeil Alexander-Walker could sneak into the top-10, too.

They wouldn’t need to in order for this one to hit, but insurance wouldn’t hurt.

Gonzaga Players in the Top 10

The Bet: Under 0.5 -286 with PointsBet

There’s no denying that Gonzaga’s Rui Hachimura and Brandon Clarke are talented prospects. But both have age working against them, and that matters on draft night.

Clarke is the better of the two prospects but will turn 23 before the start of his rookie season, while Hachimura isn’t all that versatile and will turn 22 midway through his rookie season.

Brandon Clarke
Gonzaga’s Brandon Clarke sneaks in at No. 9 for a top-10 Zags' pick.

That’s significant and likely will push them out of the top-10 on draft night – though both could still be Lottery selections.
