|Tiger Woods Betting Odds||2019 Golf Majors|
It’s been more than a decade since Tiger Woods last won a major championship event. While it still feels like just yesterday that Tiger Woods overcame Rocco Mediate in a playoff to win the 2008 U.S. Open, a lot has changed since he stood alone as the best in the world.
Over the past few years, there have been plenty of debates about whether Tiger still has enough left in the tank to ever win another major tournament.
A lot of those perceptions changed when Tiger finished second at the 2018 PGA Championship and tied for sixth at The 2018 Open Championship. He’s tied as a favorite to win The Masters, but can he actually capture that major – or any others – in 2019?
Here’s a primer for fans of golf betting.
August National, April 11-14
Tiger’s Odds To Win: +1200 at 888Sport
One major factor working in Tiger’s favor is that fact that he has played and won on three of the four major venues this year beginning with Augusta National. Tiger’s first ever major victory came at Augusta National back in 1997 when he was just 21.
Woods went on to win the Masters in back-to-back years in 2001 and 2002. He would win it again in a sudden death play-off over Chris DiMarco in 2005.
With four green jackets to his name already, it would appear as though the first major championship event of the season is also Tiger’s best opportunity to win a major this season.
Remember, he finished 32nd at Augusta last year and shot a final round 69. Now that he’s in better shape, he might be able to sustain that for four rounds.
Bethpage Black (NY), May 16-19
Tiger’s Odds To Win: +1200 at SugarHouse
While Tiger has experienced the most major success at the Masters, last year’s performance at the PGA Championship indicates he could contend for the win here this year. Tiger was the runner-up in this tournament last year when it was played at the Bellerive Country Club.
While it will be played at Bethpage Black this year, Tiger has also won at that venue before as well. In the 2002 U.S. Open, Tiger was the only player to record a score under part to win. He also finished T-6th at the 2009 U.S. Open at the same course.
Even if he falls short of winning at the Masters, Tiger should still have a pretty good shot at winning the PGA Championship. He’s currently tied with others as the favorite going into this event.
Pebble Beach Golf Links (CA), June 13-16
Tiger’s Odds To Win: +1000 at 888Sport
The PGA Tour’s schedule changed this up to be the third major on the calendar. Once again, Pebble Beach is another course that Tiger has thrived at in his career.
Tiger won the U.S. Open here in 2000. He also won the 2000 Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Tiger missed the cut in the U.S. Open last year at Shinnecock but he should feel much more comfortable this time around at Pebble Beach.
Royal Portrush (Northern Ireland), July 19-22
Tiger’s Odds To Win: +1200 at SugarHouse
The final major championship event on the 2019 calendar is The Open. A year ago, Tiger finished sixth at this tournament at Carnoustie. That was one of his most consistent efforts at a major (last year) as he shot 71 in three of the four rounds, along with a 66.
This year, he will attempt to improve that performance just a little bit in order to compete for the outright win.
Of the four major championships, this might be the least likely candidate for Tiger’s next major win based both on the order they will happen as well as Tiger’s overall history.
|2019 Major Wins||Woods’ Odds|
When you consider the form Tiger showed a year ago, the fact that he is fully healthy again is a great sign. Consider that Tiger has three Top-20 finishes already, whereas he had just one in his first three starts last year.
Beyond that, we saw him come close a couple of times last season when he was in worse shape. He’s stronger and in better form now.
He had a strong finish to his 2018 campaign and has carried that over into the 2019 season. Factor in his course history at the four major championship venues on this year’s schedule and it seems likely that Tiger will have an excellent shot at competing for a major championship in 2019.
I’ll bet on him winning one major this year at +200 at 888Sport.
