6 SEC Football Best Bets to Consider Backing in Week 13

Rivalry week is here! Time to throw out the record books, right? After all, you never know what happens when two ancient rivals clash, pitting brother against brother or second cousin once removed against third cousin by marriage, passion and hatred making up for differences on the field.

Or … not. While the SEC schedule is better than it was last weekend, some of these rivalry games may not be close. At all. Of the eight rivalries on the schedule this week, six featured double-digit opening lines, and three opened with lines of 20-plus.

Sorry, but rivalry passion won’t make up for a bad defense and a second-tier quarterback.

It promises to be a Thanksgiving weekend stuffed full of lopsided scores — which from a college football betting standpoint, makes things a little more straightforward. Here are your six best bets for the final regular-season weekend in the SEC.

  1. Florida -4 at Florida State

The line: Florida -4 at 888Sport

A top-25 team being just a 4-point favorite at an opponent with a losing record? This likely goes back to Florida’s offense, which has issues a rout of Idaho can’t fix.

Florida State is riding high after knocking off Boston College to keep bowl hopes alive, but don’t let that obscure how disappointing this Seminoles’ team has been. Florida State is next-to-last in the ACC in both scoring and total offense, 10th in scoring defense, 12th in passing defense — you get the picture.

Rivalry game or not, the Gators have shown enough to lead you to believe they can cover a 4-point line on the road. Bet Florida -4 with 888Sport.

  2. Clemson vs. South Carolina

The line: Clemson -25 with SugarHouse

The Palmetto State clash has turned ugly, with Gamecocks fans chafing at Clemson’s national ascendancy and Tigers supporters wasting no opportunity to rub it in. But one thing this game hasn’t been is close: the Tigers followed their 56-7 beatdown in Death Valley two seasons ago with a 34-10 win last year.

South Carolina’s offensive line has been no match for Clemson’s defense, forcing Gamecocks quarterback Jake Bentley into rushed decisions.

Expect more of the same this time around, with Clemson covering the 25-point spread and this rivalry game being a mere speed bump on the Tigers’ road to the College Football Playoff. Bet Clemson -25 with SugarHouse.

  3. Texas A&M vs. LSU

The line: Texas A&M -1 with SugarHouse

It speaks volumes about LSU’s offensive ineptness that the top-10 Tigers are an underdog on the road against an unranked opponent.

That real-deal Texas A&M rush defense looked the part last week in bottling up UAB star running back Spencer Brown, and is capable of making LSU look one-dimensional in Kyle Field.

Last week’s frying of Rice notwithstanding, the Tigers continue to have their issues in the pass game. The Aggies have regained some offensive footing as of late and feature enough weapons to outscore the Tigers at home. Take Texas A&M -1 with SugarHouse.

  4. Georgia vs. Georgia Tech

The line: Georgia -17.5 at 888Sport

It’s strength versus strength as the best rushing offense in the ACC meets the best rushing offense in the SEC. Georgia Tech has been one of the more reliable ATS teams this season, covering six of seven until going OT to nip Virginia last week.

But none of those opponents were in Georgia’s league; the only team the Jackets have played at that level was Clemson, which swatted them 49-21.

Everything Georgia Tech does well, Georgia does better, with an effective, seasoned quarterback as an added bonus. It’s easy to see the Techsters hanging around for three quarters, until the Bulldogs pull away and cover the 17.5-point spread. Take Georgia and give the points with 888Sport.

  5. Alabama vs. Auburn

The line: Alabama -24.5 at 888Sport

The Tigers’ mediocre offense and mediocre defense add up to a dud of an Iron Bowl. For all the rivalry talk, Alabama has very recently played two SEC teams better than Auburn — LSU and Mississippi State — and won by an average score of 26.5-0.

Is there any reason to believe Auburn will be any different, even with that 24.5-point line? Not particularly. Alabama had covered four straight before its first-half sleepwalk against The Citadel, which we’re not putting too much stock in. The big question might be if Auburn can even score, and prevent the Tide from posting a third straight shutout in SEC play.

    Bet Alabama -24.5 with 888Sport.

  6. Missouri vs. Arkansas

The line: Missouri -21 at 888Sport

Good news, Razorbacks fans: You have just one game remaining in this rotten season. Bad news: It could be really ugly. Missouri is one of the hottest teams in the league, with only a final-play loss to Kentucky preventing a five-game winning streak.

The Tigers’ offense is clicking, as evidenced by that 50-17 throttling of Tennessee last weekend. Arkansas is at or near the bottom of the league in both total offense and total defense, against an opponent averaging 36.8 points per game.

Every sign points to a long Friday afternoon for the visitors at Faurot Field, and Mizzou easing beyond that 21-point spread. Take the Tigers -21 with 888Sport.
