Adam Caplan's NFL Daily Fantasy Top Plays for Week 10

Adam Caplan's NFL Daily Fantasy Top Plays for Week 10

I mentioned in last week’s column that not every matchup will work out for you, which is really the story in fantasy football betting.

The reality is that no one is giving you the answers to the test before the games start, but over the long haul you’re going to well the better you understand matchups and numbers.

And there’s no better example of that with the Buccaneers and Falcons offenses, which you’ll see illustrated below. You’ll want to be in on their passing games the rest of the way.

And with that, good luck in Week 10!

Week 10 Quarterback Best Bet

Ryan Fitzpatrick = $7,600 at FanDuel

Matchup: Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Washington Redskins

I wasn’t kidding when I said last week that the Buccaneers would be playing from behind against host Panthers. That’s really the reality of their defense. They can’t stop anyone and their quarterback (this time around it’s Fitzpatrick) will have to throw the ball more than they would like just to stay close.

And that’s what happened last week, as the journeyman signal caller had 40 pass attempts. Oh, did I mentioned he had four TD passes against a solid Panthers secondary?

In fantasy football, it’s not just a numbers game, but a game flow prediction each week. It’s almost a given that the Buccaneers will have to throw more than they would like and their running game has been less than average, so to have a chance to win, you know what’s coming.

And they just happened to be facing a Redskins defense that has given up eight TD passes, 1214 yards passing (303.5 per game) over their last four contests to opposing quarterbacks. Those numbers equate to starting Fitzpatrick this week without hesitation.

Week 10 Running Back Best Bet

Tevin Coleman = $7,300 at FanDuel

Matchup: Atlanta Falcons at Cleveland Browns

I mentioned above that you should invest in the Falcons passing game the rest of the way. It has taken offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian awhile to figure out how use the personnel correctly, but he has been on a major roll of late with no sign of slowing down.

And Coleman, who is on the final year of his rookie contract, has been a recipient of Sark’s improvement as a play caller. Over his last two games, Coleman has three combined TDs and 238 total yards.

Coleman will be facing a Browns defense that has given up a whopping 9 total TDs and 746 total yards over just its last four games. And Cleveland’s defense is really banged up in the secondary and at linebacker.

I never thought I’d say this, but in Sark we trust!

Week 10 Wide Receiver Best Bets

Mike Evans = $7,500 at FanDuel

Matchup: Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Washington Redskins

I didn’t have the veteran wide receiver on my recommended play list last week because I thought his matchup overall was tough and his salary was too high, though I analyzed correctly that the Buccaneers would have to throw a lot to keep the score close.

This week, the fifth-year pro should bounce back quite well against a struggling secondary. The Redskins have all the sudden become the get-well defense for your fantasy quarterbacks and wide receivers. Over their last four games, the Redskins are giving up about 16 receptions, over 211 yards, and just over a TD per game.

The Redskins are now pretty banged up at cornerback, so Evans should be able to take advantage of what looks to be a very favorable matchup.

Tyler Boyd = $7,800 at FanDuel

Matchup: Cincinnati Bengals vs. New Orleans Saints

I haven’t listed Boyd in this space for several weeks, but he is in the midst of a breakout season. The third-year receiver now becomes the team’s top receiver with veteran WR A.J. Green out of the lineup at least for a few games.

Boyd, who is averaging over 6 receptions and 77 yards per game, figures to be in a game where the passing tempo will be high. The Bengals defense faces perhaps the NFL’s best passing offense and the Saints should have no problem scoring over 30 points on Sunday.

And with that being the case, you can be rest assured that the Bengals will be throwing the ball quite a bit to keep up. The good news for Boyd is he’ll be facing a struggling secondary.

The Saints gave up over 16 receptions, over 233 yards, and 5 TD passes over their last four games against opposing wide receivers. That puts them ranked second worst in fantasy production to that position.

Week 10 Tight End Best Bet

Jordan Reed = $5,200 at FanDuel

Matchup: Washington Redskins at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Reed, despite being relatively healthy this season (he hasn’t missed a game—knock on wood), only has one TD catch and is averaging just over 4 receptions per game. Luckily for the 6th-year pro that the Buccaneers are one of the worst teams in the NFL in covering opposing tight ends (ranked 30th) and they are giving up a catch rate of 75%.

While he clearly isn’t the same player from a production from his best seasons of 2015-2016, Reed should be good enough to use this week against a suspect Buccaneers defense. However, he’s practicing with a back injury, so make sure he’s active on Sunday before you turn your final lineup in.

Week 10 Flex Best Bet

Duke Johnson = $5,600 at FanDuel

Matchup: Cleveland Browns vs. Atlanta Falcons

You’ll notice a theme in this week’s recommendations.

Some of them are players who are on teams that I’m projecting to be playing in a game where the passing tempo will be high in order for that team to keep the game close (see the Buccaneers last week).

Johnson, who had 9 receptions, 78 yards, and 2 TDs during last week’s loss to the visiting Chiefs, should be instore for lots of usage in the passing game again this week.

The Browns defense is beat up injury-wise and they don’t stand much of a chance to have success against the hot Falcons offense, so Johnson should have another big game in the receptions department. He looks like a perfect flex option at a very reasonable price.
