Big 12 Basketball Tournament 2019 Betting Odds, Tips & Picks

The Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri, hosts its 10th Big 12 Tournament as four teams take the court on Wednesday, March 13. The other six teams receive a first-round bye after battling in what was a very competitive conference this season.

Kansas finally fell as the top team within the Big 12, as Chris Beard's Texas Tech Red Raiders were the ones to take over (along with Kansas State).

As a result, they get a top seed in this year's tournament and face the winner of Oklahoma vs. West Virginia.

Kansas didn't even get the second seed, as inner-state rival Kansas State finished with a better record and will take on the winner of Oklahoma State and Texas Christian.

2019 Big 12 Tournament Betting Tips

Kansas has been to four of the last six Big 12 Championship games, winning three of those. The Jayhawks have been to 13 title games overall, which is more than any other school (11-2 in those games).

Iowa State has quietly won three of the last five Big 12 Championship games, as they are the only team to go undefeated in those title games (4-0).

West Virginia, despite finishing at the very bottom of the conference this season, has been to three straight Big 12 Championship games (lost all three).

Will history find a way to come full circle, or will another school step up in 2019?

Best Bet

Look no further than Texas Tech at +150 with SugarHouse if you want to take the "best bet." Texas Tech reached the semifinals of last year's Big 12 Tournament before falling short to West Virginia.

The Red Raiders were picked to finish seventh in the Big 12 this season but ended up winning it.

Despite losing all their top players, Chris Beard found a way to knock Kansas off their Big 12 mountaintop and continues to prove that he is one of the most underrated coaches in the country.

Not only did Texas Tech win the Big 12 (along with Kansas State), something a school outside of Kansas hasn't done in over a decade, but they did it in convincing fashion.

The Red Raiders have won 10 of their last 11 games, including nine in a row by an average of 18.8 points. They've beaten ...

  • West Virginia by 31 points
  • Oklahoma by 12 points
  • Baylor by 25 points
  • Oklahoma State by 28 points
  • Kansas by 29 points
  • TCU by 15 points
  • Texas by 19 points

The Red Raiders have a 3-0 record in the most important month for college basketball, March.

The three games won in March were against TCU, Texas and Iowa State - winning those three games by an average of 13.6 points.

With odds currently sitting at +150 (a 40 percent chance to win), the Texas Tech Red Raiders are the best bet based on their recent dominance and pretty favorable payout.

Value Bets

Two schools actually enter with solid value bets, as both schools have history on their side. The Kansas Jayhawks, to nobody's surprise, have been to the most Big 12 Championship games.

They won last year's championship game, but have dealt with a ton of adversity this season.

The Jayhawks' roster has been completely depleted in terms of injuries and other suspensions so a second-straight championship will be difficult, to say the least.

However, with the Jayhawks entering at +400 with DraftKings, the value is there for any believer in Bill Self's crew.

Iowa State is also a solid value bet, entering with +425 odds to win. As mentioned, the Cyclones have won three of the last five Big 12 Championship games.

If Iowa State makes it past Baylor and the semifinals, they have a very good chance to win as they are undefeated in Big 12 title games.

It should be worth noting, however, that Iowa State has lost three games in a row including four of their last five.

Long-Shot Bets

Although long shots aren't recommended, they do happen from time-to-time and especially during the March Madness season. There is literally no bigger longshot than the WVU Mountaineers at +15000 with SugarHouse.

Bob Huggins' team has played a season to forget, finishing last in the conference with a road loss to Oklahoma State to close the season.

It's very unlikely they get past Oklahoma in the first round. However, they did beat Oklahoma once this season and have won two of their final four games.

If WVU were to get past Oklahoma, they would then meet Texas Tech. Another issue with WVU as a longshot bet is how they play on the road.

The Mountaineers haven't won a road game all season, as a trip from Morgantown to Kansas City is roughly 860 miles.
