Big 12 Betting Tips and Picks: Week 9 Games to Consider

  • Bet Oklahoma -24.5 over Kansas State with SugarHouse.

Following a week where the majority of the conference had off, every Big 12 team is playing this weekend. The schedule features a slate of games expected to be close and with the potential for a couple of upsets.

Here four games that college football betting fans should be paying attention to.

No. 6 Texas at Oklahoma State

The Longhorns followed an impressive win over rival Oklahoma by toppling Baylor 23-17 two weeks ago then having last weekend off. Texas now heads on the road to take on a reeling Oklahoma State team that has lost two consecutive games and three of the past four.

Typically, OSU features a prolific offense that is among the very best in the country, and that appeared to be the case when the Cowboys scored 58, 55 and 44 points successively in nonconference games to open the season.

But since entering Big 12 play, OSU has not experienced the same success, scoring just 17 points in a loss to Texas Tech and a mere 12 in a loss to Kansas State. And as good as Texas is on both sides of the ball this is not a favorable matchup for the Cowboys.

Texas should be able to move the ball and score against a suspect OSU defense that is allowing the third-most points in the conference. And if OSU cannot stop Texas from reaching the end zone, the Cowboys are unlikely to keep pace when they’re on offense.

The Longhorns not only extend their winning streak to seven, they also cover the -3.5 spread. Bet Texas with SugarHouse.

Texas Tech at Iowa State

Both the Red Raiders and Cyclones are riding two-game winning streaks and have true freshman quarterbacks who are playing above their experience level.

This is also a matchup consisting of the Big 12’s best offense (Texas Tech) versus the best defense (Iowa State), and the likely determining factor in the outcome, hinging on whichever unit best asserts itself.

The Red Raiders offense averages the third-most passing yards per game (383.0) and the seventh-most points (43.9) in the country. Texas Tech will see the return of its quarterback Alan Bowman, who missed last week’s game at TCU with a partially collapsed lung, but has been cleared to play Saturday.

Defense is the backbone of ISU’s current winning streak. The Cyclones had seven sacks in each of their past two games and are allowing the fewest yards per game in the Big 12. ISU doesn’t give up many explosive plays, something the high-powered Red Raiders offense will surely test.

As West Virginia can attest, playing Iowa State in Ames is not easy, and that is the challenge awaiting Texas Tech this weekend. The Cyclones win a close game, but fail to cover the -3 spread. Bet Texas Tech +3 with 888Sport.

Kansas State at No. 8 Oklahoma

Oklahoma rebounded nicely from its loss to Texas, going on the road and steamrolling TCU 52-27 last weekend. Up next for the Sooners is a favorable matchup with Kansas State, which presents Oklahoma another opportunity to demonstrate its defense woes are a thing of the past.

The Sooners get the Wildcats coming off a bye, giving KSU a week to prepare a gameplan that has to find a way to contain an Oklahoma offense that scores quickly and abundantly.

Sooners quarterback Kyler Murray has been sensational throwing for 1,977 yards and 25 touchdowns, and adding 428 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.

KSU’s offense is centered on running back Alex Barnes, who has run for 181 and 250 yards in consecutive weeks. The Wildcats modified their offense last week, essentially going strictly to the running the ball and that figures to again be the case Saturday.

Oklahoma will scheme to shutdown Barnes, forcing KSU offense to throw, something the Wildcats have struggled to do with any consistency this season.

Bet on Oklahoma to win big, even covering the sizeable -24.5 spread, with SugarHouse.
