Big 12 Championship 2018 Betting Tips: Texas vs Oklahoma

Quick Tips

  • Bet Texas +7.5 over Oklahoma at 888Sport.
  • Bet Texas-Oklahoma over 78 at SugarHouse.

When Texas and Oklahoma played in October the result was a 48-45 Longhorns win that came down to a last-second field goal and also happened to be one of the most memorable games of the season.

The Sooners and Longhorns will resume their longstanding rivalry in the Big 12 Conference Championship Game Saturday, the first time the two schools have faced each other twice within a season since 1903.

The stakes are different for each team but both have something considerable to play for. An Oklahoma win positions the Sooners for a potential berth in the National Championship Playoff, with the odds of Oklahoma making the Playoff and winning it all are +3600 on FanDuel.

As for Texas, it is seeking its first conference title since 2009, seemingly forever ago for a program expected to contend annually. There’s a lot for fans of college football betting to consider.

Texas (+7.5) over Oklahoma

Similar to how the transpired in October, expect plenty of points to be scored Saturday with the outcome likely coming down to which team has the ball last.

In the first game, the Sooners rallied with three touchdowns in six minutes to erase the Longhorns’ 21-point fourth-quarter lead before Texas won by kicking a 40-yard field goal with 9 seconds remaining.

Although the Longhorns won their previous matchup, the Sooners enter as a -7.5-point favorite on Saturday. In October, Texas was also the underdog at +7. And it is worth noting that the past five meetings between these programs have been decided by seven points or less.

That Oklahoma is again the favorite is not a surprise considering the Sooners have won six consecutive games (Texas is 4-2 during this same span) and possess the most dynamic offense in the country that averages 50.3 points and 584.3 total yards per game, leading the nation in both statistical categories.

But as excellent the Sooners offense is, their defense leaves a lot to be desired with the unit Oklahoma’s glaring weakness throughout the season. The Sooners are giving 449 yards per game, 110 out of 130 FBS teams, and Texas should again be able to exploit this deficiency.

Oklahoma will win in a shootout, but because the Sooners have a penchant for playing in close games (three of their last four wins were by a combined nine points) bet the Longhorns cover the +7.5 at 888Sport.

Over/Under Total (78)

The Longhorns put up 48 points and 501 total yards against Oklahoma in October. Both the point tally and yardage total was Texas’ second-highest in 12 games this season. A similar output is expected Saturday.

Oklahoma is equally explosive both passing and rushing, and have proven they will have success no matter which defense they’re opposing. That includes against Texas, with the Sooners strafing the Longhorns defense in their last matchup to the tune of 532 total yards -- the second-most the Longhorns have conceded this season.

What Oklahoma didn’t do well in October was hang onto the ball, committing three turnovers while Texas had zero. To win Saturday, the Longhorns will need to again have a plus turnover margin.

The over-under is set at 78 on SugarHouse, a high number but one that is certainly reachable considering how good the Sooners and Longhorns are on offense, and how porous Oklahoma is on defense. Bet the over at SugarHouse.
