Big 12 Football Betting Tips & Picks: Games to Bet Week 13

Quick Tips:

  • Bet West Virginia -1 over Oklahoma with SugarHouse.
  • Bet Texas -15 over Kansas with 888Sport.
  • Bet Iowa State -14 over Kansas State with 888Sport.

A lot remains to be settled in the Big 12 with neither bid in the conference championship game yet solidified. Both Oklahoma and West Virginia control its own respective destinies, whereas Texas needs a win and Mountaineers victory to lock up its spot.

With so much at stake this weekend, here’s how college football betting fans should approach the games.

No. 6 Oklahoma at No. 9 West Virginia

The line: West Virginia -1 at SugarHouse.

Two elite offenses that are among the very best in the country should make for an entertaining and wild game Friday night in Morgantown where the winner advances to the Big 12 title game.

Oklahoma leads the Big 12 in points per game with 49.5, while West Virginia is second at 40.9. And considering each has a defense that has had a penchant to give up big plays, expect both teams to rack up an abundance of yards and score plenty of points.

Between two dynamic offenses the difference is likely to come down to which defense can at least somewhat stunt the other’s high-powered offense. On that front, the Mountaineers have the edge as the Sooners defense has been a season-long weakness.

Oklahoma is giving up the third-most points and fourth-most yard per game in the conference. And even a change on the defensive coaching staff last month hasn’t taken hold, with the Sooners surrendering 40-plus points in their previous three games.

Oklahoma is playing for more than just a Big 12 title game berth, with spot in the National Championship Playoff still realistic depending on the outcome of games elsewhere. But West Virginia also isn’t lacking for motivation, and getting the Sooners at home, at night and in what surely will be a raucous Mountaineer Field is a considerable advantage.

Bet West Virginia -1 with SugarHouse.

No. 15 Texas at Kansas

The line: Texas -15 at 888Sport

Standing in the Longhorns way to securing themselves a spot into the Big 12 championship game is Kansas, the Big 12’s perennial bottom dweller with the Jayhawks already announcing coach David Beaty will be replaced by Les Miles next season.

But if Texas thinks Friday’s game is going to be walk the Longhorns just need to remember what transpired when they last visited David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium in 2016.

Despite being 2-50 in its previous 52 Big 12 games, the Jayhawks pulled off a stunning 24-21 victory that was Kansas’ first against Texas in over 75 years.

And as the Jayhawks demonstrated in hanging with Oklahoma last week in a 55-40 road loss, they have the offense to give Texas fits on Friday. Kansas freshman running back Pooka Williams Jr. has emerged as one of the more explosive players in the conference, ranking second in rushing yards and first in all-purpose yards.

He had 15 carries for 252 yards and two touchdowns against the Sooners. And facing a Texas defense that has had on occasion struggled, Williams presents a troublesome matchup.

Texas is still the better-rounded team, however, and the Longhorns are justifiably 15-point favorites on SugarHouse. The Longhorns defense shined in their important 24-10 win over Iowa State last week, limiting the Cyclones to 210 total yards and amassing six sacks.

Take the Longhorns to win and narrowly cover the -15 with 888Sport.

Kansas State at No. 16 Iowa State

The line: Iowa State -14 at 888Sport

Their loss to Texas may have eliminated the Cyclones from title contention, but they still has something to play for this weekend; Kansas State has won the past 10 games against the Cyclones.

The Wildcats enter the regular-season finale on a two-game winning streak and catch the Cyclones coming off a disheartening 24-10 defeat to the Longhorns. How ISU responds will go a long to dictating the outcome Saturday.

Atypical of most Big 12 offenses, the Wildcats nor Cyclones are not all that explosive with both heavily reliant on rushing the ball. The focal point for the Wildcats offense is running back Alex Barnes, the conference’s leading rusher (1,171 yards) and whose 11 touchdowns on the ground is tied for first.

ISU running back David Montgomery is fourth in the Big 12 in rushing yards despite missing one game and half of another.

ISU’s defense is the best unit in Saturday’s tilt, with the Cyclones allowing the fewest points (20.8) and second-fewest yards (350.5) per game in the league. Facing a KSU offense that has the worst total offense in the Big 12 (337.1 yards per game) gives ISU a decided advantage.

KSU will be challenge to sustain any drives and points may be at a premium. Take the Cyclones to win and cover the -14 with 888Sport.
