NASCAR Cup Odds & Best Bets 2018: 5 Drivers To Back at Texas

NASCAR Cup Odds & Best Bets 2018: 5 Drivers To Back at Texas

Last week’s drama-filled ending at Martinsville gives way for the wide-open spaces of Texas Motor Speedway for the NASCAR Cup Series.

Joey Logano and Martin Truex Jr. provided a highlight reel over the last 30 laps at Martinsville, which came to a crescendo on the final lap. Logano knocked Truex out of the way for the win, leaving Truex in third place and, more importantly, seething.

Will that carry over to Sunday’s second race of the Round of 8 at Texas? Logano’s win secured a spot in November’s Championship 4 finale in Miami, where he’ll have a chance to run for the title.

Truex is not a lock to make it there just yet and vowed after the Martinsville skirmish Logano would not win the championship. Whether or not that turns into retaliation on the track or just added determination to keep Logano in his rear view mirror the rest of the way remains to be seen.

While the Martinsville short track is conducive for rough-and-tumble racing along with some contact, Texas is not.

The 1.5-mile track is better known as a place for high speeds and strategy, both of which will play a major factor in determining the race winner as well as who stays alive in the playoff picture.

For those who enjoy NASCAR betting, here are five drivers to consider Sunday in Texas:

  1. Kyle Busch

A three-time Texas race winner, Busch remains on top of the playoff grid points-wise heading into Sunday’s race. But the Joe Gibbs Racing driver has never been one to play the game of just points racing and will be laser-focused on winning.

He took the checkered flag in the spring Texas race and actually has a pair of victories over the last five Cup races at the track.

There was frustration around the Busch camp last week at Martinsville, where despite winning the pole and leading more than a 100 laps it added up to just a top-five finish. A motivated Kyle Busch may be tough to be in the Lone Star State.

Bet Busch to win at +350 with 888Sport.

  2. Chase Elliott

He had all sorts of momentum coming out of Kansas two weeks ago with his third win of the season. But Elliott fell flat at Martinsville, starting with a poor qualifying effort and subsequent middle-of-the-field starting spot.

It forced Elliott to play catch up the rest of the race just to finish seventh. He is fighting for his playoff life and a win relieves relying on the pressure of the points.

Elliott already has a 1.5-mile track win this season at Kansas and his past performances at Texas equate to a 7.4 average finish in six starts with only one of those outside the top-10. Elliott will be strong Sunday.

Bet Elliott to win at +1000 with SugarHouse.

  3. Kevin Harvick

By his lofty 2018 standards Harvick has cooled off as of late. Surprisingly he was not much of a factor at Martinsville and his 10th-place finish didn’t include much challenging for the lead.

But the seven-time race winner this season has been stout on 1.5-mile tracks like Texas. Harvick has made 31 career starts at the track with one win and more than half (19) finishing inside the top-10.

He is the defending champion of this race a year ago and came home second in the series’ first visit of the season. A good starting spot will be key for Harvick, who if he starts upfront and gets the lead early has the chance to dominate.

Bet Harvick to win at +325 with 888Sport.

  4. Joey Logano

The pressure of the playoffs is off Logano after his Martinsville win locked him into the Miami title race. So for the next two races of this round it’s all about Victory Lane for Logano and company and really nothing else.

That means if the opportunity for pit strategies or gambles others trying to protect their spot in the standings won’t risk, Logano can without much repercussion if it fails.

Throw in what should be a fast car, an 8.1 average Texas finish over the last 10 races, including five straight top-10 runs plus a stress-free atmosphere and Logano could easily be a back-to-back winner Sunday.

Bet Logano to win at +1000 with SugarHouse.

  5. Brad Keselowski

Like he was last week at Martinsville, Keselowski is the best bet at Texas among non-playoff drivers. He led 41 laps a week ago, including a battle with Penske teammate Logano, demonstrating how important winning is no matter the championship implications.

Keselowski had an issue in the sprint Texas race that led to a 33rd-place finish. But he was fifth and sixth in the two previous outings and has come close to winning there several times in his career. He’s a three time 2018 race winner and number four is in sight at Texas.

Bet Keselowski to win at +750 with 888Sport.
