Pac-12 Week 12 Betting Tips and Picks: Top Games to Consider

Quick Tips:

  • Bet Colorado +7 over Utah with 888Sport.
  • Bet Arizona State over Oregon at +135 SugarHouse.
  • Bet Washington State -9.5 over Arizona with 888Sport.

The Pac-12 South has greater clarity following a weekend where Arizona State and Utah both won and USC lost, which effectively narrowed down the division race to three teams with two weeks remaining.

The North is much more straightforward, with Washington State in control and could clinch on Saturday if Washington loses to Oregon State.

Here’s how fans of college football betting should approach the slate:

No. 19 Utah at Colorado

The line: Utah -7 at 888Sport

Although Utah was without its starting quarterback and running back, the Utes offense had little drop off in offensive production in their 32-25 win over Oregon last weekend.

Utah now takes on slumping Colorado that has lost five consecutive games and dealing with speculation that coach Mike MacIntyre will be fired at the end of the season.

Utah’s defense is among the best in the Pac-12, allowing the second-fewest points (19.7) per game and generating the third-most (1.5) turnovers per game. The Utes are especially superb against the run, which presents a bad matchup for a Buffaloes team that has struggled to successfully rush the ball with any consistency.

When Colorado rolled off five straight wins to begin the season it did so with an offense that was at its best moving the ball through the air, then injuries took hold and the Buffaloes went into a nosedive.

But star wide receiver Laviska Shenault returned from a toe injury last week and showed no rust versus Washington State, with 10 receptions for 102 yards. Utah has had difficulty against athletic playmakers, so Shenault could be the difference in Colorado snapping its losing streak.

Utah will win but not cover. Take Colorado and the points at 888Sport.

Arizona State at Oregon

The moneyline: Oregon -190, Arizona State +135

Arizona State controls its own destiny, where if the Sun Devils can beat Oregon then Arizona the following week they will win the Pac-12 South, something few predicated at the beginning of the year.

The Sun Devils present a matchup problem for a Ducks defense that has had issues controlling the running game in recent weeks, allowing a combined 719 rushing yards with an average of 5.3 per attempt over its past three games, two of which were losses.

Oregon can expect to get a heavy dose of ASU running back Eno Benjamin, the third-leading rusher in the nation, on Saturday. Benjamin has 1,295 rushing yards, third-most in the nation, and 12 touchdowns on the season.

Benjamin has really come alive during the Sun Devils surprising push toward the South title, with 542 yards and five touchdowns in the previous three games.

The Ducks offense continues to be hot and cold, but they are much better playing at home than on the road, where three of their four losses have occurred.

The key is how Oregon begins the game as slow starts in road tilts against Washington State, Arizona and Utah (all losses) resulted in early deficits the Ducks were unable to overcome. If ASU can build up a lead and control the clock with Benjamin, the Ducks are going to be in trouble.

Bet Arizona State to win at +135 with SugarHouse.

Arizona at No. 8 Washington State

The line: Washington State -9.5 at 888Sport

Washington State still has a chance to get into the National Championship Playoff, though the Cougars are going to need some help in the form of other teams losing. Arizona has improved over the second half of the season, but the Cougars present an imposing challenge and should be able to extend their home streaking to 13 games.

The Wildcats biggest weakness is on defense, especially against the pass as they’re ranked ninth in pass defense and 10th in total defense in the Pac-12. This greatly favors the pass-heavy Cougars, whose offense has been a nightmare for opposing defenses.

WSU quarterback Gardner Minshew leads the nation in passing yards per game (385.2), while the Cougars have the most passing yards (392.3) per game and are 17th in points per game (37.6).

Arizona will also have to contend with a Cougars defense that doesn’t get enough attention for how good it is. WSU is third in total defense in the Pac-12 and ranked 20th nationally, and also allows the fourth-fewest points per game (22.1) in the conference.

Playing at home further gives WSU the advantage as the game time temperature forecasted to be in the 30s. Take the Cougars -9.5 with 888Sport.
