Virginia vs Auburn Odds, Tips & Best Bets Final Four 2019

Yes, Virginia, there is a Final Four. One year after ending up on the wrong end of the biggest upset in NCAA Tournament history, the Cavaliers have at last returned to college basketball’s promised land for the first time since 1984, when Rick Carlisle was feeding the ball inside to Olden Polynice.

And not only have the Wahoos made it, but they’re the betting favorites this weekend in Minneapolis as the lone No. 1 seed to survive the regional round.

Awaiting the Cavaliers at U.S. Bank Stadium is the upstart of this tournament, Auburn, a No. 5 seed that reached the Final Four by drowning a trio of blue-blood programs in a wave of 3-pointers.

It’s a contrast of pedigrees and a contrast of styles, and there are plenty of ways to carve out a piece of the action. As part of our March Madness betting guide, here's a look at the game that tips off this year’s Final Four on Saturday night.

Against the Spread

Auburn’s hot streak translates against the spread — the Tigers have won 12 in a row overall, and covered in six of their last eight. Virginia has covered in just two of its last five games, but the Cavaliers maintain a 25-11 season record against the spread that’s the second-best nationally behind Michigan State.

Virginia is up to a 6-point favorite in some books, which you can go bet at SugarHouse. The Cavaliers covered that number or larger twice against tournament-caliber opponents from major conferences in the month of March, covering -10.5 in a second-round victory over Oklahoma and -6 in a matchup at Syracuse late in the regular season. In seven such games this season, the Wahoos are 4-3.

Auburn, meanwhile, has won three of its last five as an underdog, the largest line in that span being +5.5 against North Carolina. The Tigers last played as an underdog of 6 points or more Feb. 23 at Kentucky, where as an 8-point dog they lost by 27.

Their overall ATS record is 21-16-1, emblematic of what had been an uneven season before their NCAA run.

Cavs, Tigers on Moneyline

The Cavaliers are the betting favorite in Minneapolis with moneyline odds of +140, while the Tigers are the Cinderella of the field at +700 to win it all.

And yet, given the gauntlet Auburn has just been through — not many teams can dispatch Kansas, North Carolina and Kentucky back to back to back — and how Virginia struggled to defend the 3 against Purdue, the Tigers at +230 to win their semifinal might be tempting, and you can go to BetAmerica to make that bet.

That’s a lesson many bettors have already learned in this tournament; according to FanDuel, Auburn was the choice of just 12 percent of moneyline bets entering their Sweet 16 game against the Tar Heels.

Going Over and Under

Virginia will try to control tempo and work for open shots. Auburn will try to push the ball upcourt and take drive-and-dish 3s. No wonder, then, the Cavaliers have gone under the total in three of their last four, while the Tigers have gone over in five straight and nine of 12.

Which style prevails Saturday, against a total of 131? The Cavaliers have faced that number or greater eight time previously this season, finishing over the total three times and under eight.

Auburn hasn’t faced a total that low all season, and has exceeded totals of 142 or better in each of its last five games. You can go bet with PointsBet on the Tigers to continue that trend.

Spinning the Props

Virginia and Auburn each had to endure overtime to reach the Final Four. Will they go another extra period when they play each other? That’s a prop bet offered by 888 Sport, which you can go bet at +1200 odds, for those hoping to see an additional five minutes Saturday. The Cavaliers have played two OT games this season, the Tigers three.

What about betting on which team the winner will face for the national title? Auburn would offer the most favorable odds against whoever survives the second game, getting +350 against Michigan State and +575 against fellow upstart Texas Tech, according to PointsBet. Virginia sports +125 odds of meeting the Spartans, and +225 of meeting the Red Raiders.
