Wimbledon 2018 Betting Tips: Player Odds Breakdown

As expected multiple champion Roger Federer heads the Wimbledon betting market for the highlight of the grass season with the main event set to commence on Monday 2nd July. Already a Grand Slam Finalist this year having reached the final of the Australian Open in Melbourne back in January the Swiss superstar has reached the final of both grass court events he’s contested so far this year.
The first of those came in Stuttgart where he saw off 2016 Wimbledon runner-up Milos Raonic (20/1 with Sunbets) in straight sets while a shock defeat followed in Halle when beaten in three sets by the up and coming Borna Coric (50/1 with Paddy Power).
A failure to convert break points proved crucial in the second of those defeats with Federer converting just one of his four opportunities.
Federer a Worthy Favourite
Given Federer’s track record in SW19 he is a worthy favourite while both Borna Coric and Milos Raonic are set to compete at Wimbledon with the formers recent good run of grass court form which has resulted in a 5-0 winning record contrasting starkly with his main draw record on grass in previous years (2/10 since 2014).
Milos Raonic is no stranger to good runs at Wimbledon having made the semi-final in 2014 and making the final itself two years later. Last years run came to an end at the quarter final stage with a defeat to the youngster Alexander Zverev (16/1 with 10Bet).
Local hope Andy Murray (16/1 with Unibet) is returning from injury and following an early defeat at his traditional prep Queens last week he suffered a further defeat at the hands of compatriot Kyle Edmund (100/1 188Bet) at Eastbourne earlier this week.
As is often the case Rafael Nadal (8/1 at Betfair) hasn’t had a grass court preparation and having missed the French Open through injury he hasn’t played since a defeat at the hands of the aforementioned Alexander Zverev in the Rome Masters in the spring.
Of the remainder last years beaten finalist Marin Cilic (7/1 with Bet365) will be looking to reach his second Grand Slam final of the year having finished runner-up at the Australian Open at the start of the year while temperamental Australian Nick Krygios (18/1 at William Hill) will be looking to fulfil the potential he’s shown in the past following a good run at the recent Queens tournament.
Previous Winners Dominate Women’s Draw
Previous winners dominate the head of the market in the 2018 Women’s Draw with two time winner Petra Kvitova heading the list at a best priced 5/1 with Ladbrokes.
In fact the front three in the betting, Kvitova, Serena Williams (6/1 William Hill) & last years winner Garbine Muguruza (15/2 with 888sport) have won between them all bar one of the last nine Championships here.
Serena Williams missed last years event having taken time out to have her first child while she has played just three tournaments so far this season losing to sister Venus in Indian Wells, rising star Naomi Osaka (40/1 with Coral) in the first round of Miami prior to withdrawing from a fourth round clash with Maria Sharapova (16/1 10Bet) in the French Open before a ball had been struck.
Garbine Muguruza was winning her second Grand Slam when successful here twelve months ago and while her grass court preparation didn’t go to plan when suffering a second round defeat at the hands of the Czech Republics Barbora Strycova (250/1 Unibet) in Birmingham she had played well at the second Grand Slam of the season prior to exiting in the semi-final at the hands of eventual winner Simona Halepw.

Keep an Eye on Kvitova
Favourite Petra Kvitova is the form player coming into these Championships having won three tournaments already this spring including her home tournament in Prague on clay in early May and on the grass at Birmingham last week.
The Czech former world number one saw off a number of a useful rivals prior to defeating grass court specialist Magdalena Rybarikova (40/1 with Paddy Power) in the Final in Birmingham and withdrawing from this weeks Eastbourne event.
Angelique Kerber, 12/1 to win the women’s title with Betfair reached the Final here two years ago but overall she has a mixed record in this competition having reached the Quarter Final stage just three times in eleven previous attempts.
Simona Halep backed up her solid showing in the Australian Open at the start of the year when reaching the Final by registering her first Grand Slam success at Roland Garos earlier this spring. Halep hasn’t played since that French Open success while both Alexsandra Krunic (200/1 at William Hill) and Ashleigh Barty (28/1 at Coral) have won grasscourt tournaments in recent weeks.
