Tottenham's 2-0 defeat to Manchester City meant the north London club have missed out on qualification for next season's Champions League.

To miss out on a top-four finish is disappointing for a side who started the season taking 26 points from their opening 10 games to set the early pace in the Premier League.

The pressure of the situation seemed to be getting to Ange Postecoglou, who was seen arguing with a fan during the defeat to City.

And he ended his post-match press conference abruptly after what he called a revealing 48 hours which showed him the club's 'foundations are fairly fragile'.

Will the Australian be given time to strengthen those foundations ahead of next season?

UK betting sites continue to update their market on who will replace him as Tottenham's next permanent manager.

If Postecoglou is given time, but starts the new season poorly, the pressure will increase on him and he could be out of a job.

If he starts well again, then bigger jobs may be offered to him.

Let’s take a look at the odds offered by football betting sites, before analysing some of the contenders.

De Zerbi And Potter Head Market

Brighton have not been quite as impressive this season as they were last, but Roberto De Zerbi remains a manager on the wish lists of many top clubs.

His style of play would appeal to the Tottenham faithful, while the Italian would relish the opportunity to test himself at a higher level.

De Zerbi looks set to stay at the Amex Stadium over the summer, but he could become an option if Spurs need a new boss at some point next season.

Betting apps offer a price of 4/1 at the moment for De Zerbi to replace Postecoglou.

Another man with Brighton connections, Graham Potter, is waiting for the right opportunity to get back into management.

He is the second favourite at 5/1 with Parimatch, but falling short at Chelsea may have harmed his chances of landing another big-six job for now.

Frank And Silva Have Thrived In West London

Brentford and Fulham played out a dull 0-0 draw at the start of May, but both clubs have achieved their primary objective by staying in the Premier League for another season.

Bees boss Thomas Frank has now kept the west London club in the Premier League for three campaigns, which is no mean feat given their history and the resources at his disposal.

Frank would be one of the names on Tottenham’s radar if Postecoglou left the club. Both he and Marco Silva are 6/1 options.

The latter has done an excellent job at Fulham, bringing them back to the Premier League and keeping them there with minimum fuss. He also masterminded a fantastic 3-0 victory over Spurs in March.

Tuchel And Mourinho High-Profile Options

In Glenn Hoddle, Andre Villas-Boas, Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho himself, Tottenham have never had any qualms about appointing former Chelsea managers. Could Thomas Tuchel be next through the door?

That would be quite a coup for Spurs. Tuchel has fallen short of expectations in the Bundesliga and Champions League with Bayern Munich this season, but he is undoubtedly one of the best coaches in Europe.

Priced at 10/1 with BetVictor, he might have his sights set higher than Tottenham, though.

A return for Mourinho (12/1) is not on the cards. Daniel Levy made an error in appointing him the first time around and he will not do so again.

Howe And Nagelsmann Unlikely To Land Job

Eddie Howe (12/1) has been linked with Tottenham in the past, but it is arguable whether or not that would represent a step up from Newcastle these days.

Spurs look set to finish above the Magpies this season, but only just - and the latter have been hamstrung by an injury crisis for virtually the entire campaign.

Howe is committed to Newcastle, and although that might change at some point down the line, it is hard to imagine him being the next Tottenham manager.

Julian Nagelsmann (12/1) has pledged his future to Germany until after the 2026 World Cup, so he will not be available any time soon.

Southgate And Emery Among Outsiders

Unlike Nagelsmann, Gareth Southgate looks set to step down from his international role after Euro 2024.

It will be fascinating to see where the England boss ends up next. If you think it will be Tottenham, consider odds of 12/1.

Unai Emery, also a 12/1 shot, signed a new contract at Aston Villa last week. It is difficult to envisage him joining Tottenham any time soon, especially with Villa pipping Spurs to the final Champions League spot.

But it could happen at some point down the line.
