NBA 2023-24 Futures Betting: Can Denver Repeat as Champions?
When the Denver Nuggets defeated the Miami Heat for its first NBA title in franchise history, the Nuggets became the 21st team to claim a championship.
Denver’s preseason futures betting title odds were at +1800, making them the third biggest long shot to win a title over the last 10 years. Only the 2019 Toronto Raptors (+1850) and 2015 Golden State Warriors (+2800) won with longer odds.

But with this year’s title, those long odds for the Nuggets are gone. Denver is the favorite to repeat as champions at +460 on FanDuel. No team has won back-to-back championships since the Warriors did it in 2017 and 2018.
Here is a rundown of the NBA betting favorites.

Denver Nuggets +460
The Nuggets will return all five starters, including Finals MVP Nikola Jokic and point guard Jamal Murray. A key thing to watch this offseason will be whether the team can retain reserve, Bruce Brown.
Denver will also likely need to reconfigure its bench with players such as Jeff Green and Reggie Jackson among the team’s eight free agents.
Milwaukee Bucks +490
New coach Adrian Griffin will have the luxury of working with a championship roster after Milwaukee fired Mike Budenholzer following a first-round exit.
Griffin’s first season could be made easier if the Bucks decide to bring back Brook Lopez, who is an unrestricted free agent.
Boston Celtics +500
The Celtics have a decision to make when it comes to two-time all-star Jaylen Brown. After making the All-NBA Second Team, brown is eligible for a new five-year contract extension worth as much as $295 million.
If the team decides not to extend Brown, he could be traded to a different team this summer. Much of Boston’s future odds come down to what they elect to do with Brown.

Phoenix Suns +700
Frank Vogel replaces 2022 Coach of the Year Monty Williams after Williams was let go following a second straight second-round elimination.
Vogel won a title in his first season with the Los Angeles Lakers, managing LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Now he gets to manage two more elite players in Kevin Durant and Devin Booker.
Golden State Warriors +1200
Out of the top contenders, the team with the most questions this offseason is the Warriors.
Bob Myers, the architect of the Golden State dynasty, is not returning to the team after resigning, and all-star Draymond Green has a player option he still has to decide on. Key guard Jordan Poole could also be traded this off-season.
Philadelphia 76ers +1400
Nick Nurse takes over for Doc Rivers as coach to complete one Philadelphia offseason storyline.
The other is now up to James Harden, who could return to the team and try another title run alongside reigning MVP Joel Embiid. If Harden doesn’t return, expect the 76ers to be busy attempting to find complementary pieces around Embiid.

Los Angeles Lakers +1700
LeBron James hinted at the possibility of retirement after getting swept by the Denver Nuggets, but it seems unlikely he’d want to end his career that way.
The Lakers won 18 of their final 24 regular season games to make a run through the play-in tournament and the first two rounds of the postseason, but it was evident they didn’t have enough to contend against Denver. The uncertainty around James and what roster moves could come to make the Lakers an unknown right now.
Miami Heat +1800
The Heat were just the second No. 8 seed to make a run to the NBA Finals before falling to the Nuggets in five games. But as it stands, it could be difficult to run it back with this group.
Max Strus and Gabe Vincent will be free agents, and Tyler Herro will need to work on returning after missing most of the postseason because of a broken hand. Miami could also be in the market for another marquee player to pair along with Jimmy Butler, but it could cost some of the team’s assets from this recent run.
