David Moyes will leave West Ham at the end of the season and the best betting sites are already weighing up his next club.
The Scot spent a relatively successful four and a half years with the Hammers, leading them to a Europa Conference League triumph in the 2022-23 season when they finished 14th in the Premier League.
Some fans started to call for his head at the start of this year and although Moyes responded to questions about his future by saying a contract was on the table which he would consider at the end of the season, a poor run of results during the run-in left him with nowhere to go.
The Irons were looking hot for a fourth successive European campaign at the start of March, but one win in nine – including heavy defeats at London rivals Crystal Palace and Chelsea – forced club owner David Sullivan to announce that Moyes’ contract would not be renewed when it expired in summer.
Former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui is set to replace him at West Ham, so with the season drawing to a close, we’re taking a look at the David Moyes next club odds.
Celtic And Sunderland Lead The Way
Glasgow-born Moyes joined Celtic as a teenager and football betting sites are speculating whether the team he supported as a boy could be his next destination.
Brendan Rodgers’ second spell in charge of the Hoops is going to plan, but that could all change should they lose the Old Firm derby at Parkhead this weekend.
Defeat will see Rangers go level on points with their arch rivals and ensure a tense climax to the Scottish Premiership campaign.
There is also expected to be some managerial movements in the Premier League this summer which could see Rodgers return for another spell in England, thus creating a vacancy at Celtic.
Moyes is 6/4 to take over at Celtic and manage a club in his native Scotland for the first time.
However, there is likely to be a vacancy arising soon at Championship club Sunderland, who had a terrible end to the season under interim manager Mike Dodds.
Moyes started his managerial career in the Championship with Preston in the late 90s and although he has only ever coached top-flight clubs since, no-one can doubt the Premier League potential of the Black Cats, who have a young squad that requires an experienced head at the helm.
Betting apps have priced Moyes at 7/4 to make the move to the Stadium of Light.
Forest And Blades Next In Line
Nottingham Forest have had a bumpy ride in their second season back in the Premier League and a four-point deduction for breaching profit and sustainability rules means their top-flight status has yet to be assured.
Nuno Espirito Santo has done a decent job since replacing Steve Cooper, but should Luton pull off what would be an incredible achievement by retaining their Premier League status, the writing could be on the wall for the former Wolves and Tottenham boss.
Moyes is 5/2 to land the job at the City Ground, with Sheffield United just behind at 4/1.
The Blades became the first Premier League club to concede 100 goals in a 38-game season during which they were relegated with three games remaining.
Chris Wilder’s future remains up in the air after a difficult second spell in charge of the club where he started his playing career.
Wilder could be given the chance to rebuild the team in the Championship, but the club’s board may decide to freshen things up and bring in an old hand like Moyes.
Bees And Clarets In The Mix
Thomas Frank has been incredibly successful in establishing Brentford as a Premier League club, but the feeling is starting to grow that he could be bound for bigger and better things.
The Dane was linked with Liverpool in February and although that move never materialised, his name is likely to be mentioned should a vacancy at a major club arise in the next few months.
Moyes is 5/1 with UK bookmakers to join the west London club and 11/2 to take the reins at Burnley.
Vincent Kompany steered the Clarets to the Championship title in his first season in charge, but his uncompromising tactics in playing out from the back have cost his team plenty of goals this season and a return to the second tier looks on the cards.
The former Manchester City captain is likely to be given another crack at an immediate return to the top flight, but that remains a decision for the club’s American owners.
Championship Trio In The Running
There are three other Championship clubs that could welcome an experienced manager like Moyes.
West Brom and Southampton are both in the play-off picture, but with only one place available in the Premier League the pressure is on both Carlos Corberan and Russell Martin to deliver.
Southampton are determined to get back to the Premier League at the first time of asking and are 6/1 with new betting sites to make a move for Moyes should Martin fail, while the Baggies are 8/1 to replace Corberan with the former Manchester United and Everton manager.
Preston are the 10/1 outsiders to bring Moyes back to Deepdale after Ryan Lowe could only deliver a mid-table finish on the back of a terrible end to the campaign which saw them lose their last five games without scoring.
