Golf Odds: How do the Canadians measure up for this weekend's Masters?

It’s storming this morning in Augusta, Georgia, thunder showers are in the air, so first-round tee times for The Masters have been pushed back to 10:30 a.m. EST.

That gives us a bit of time to top up the coffee and take a harder look at the latest line movements, plus where bettors are looking to put their dollars in an impressive field that welcomes back some of the big names from the LIV tour (former Masters champions).

For most people who follow pro golf, the conversation begins and ends with what Tigers Woods is doing. And the five-time Masters champ is scheduled to tee it up today at 3:54 EST, in a group with pals Jason Day and Max Homa.

Does Woods make the cut? Bettors think so (2.00), taking in 88.3% of tickets and 89.4% of handle at BetMGM. The odds that he doesn’t are at 1.74.

Other Woods specials of note at BetMGM (most bet by tickets this morning) – Woods to shoot 72 or lower in all four rounds (17.00), to finish in the top 10 (including ties, 10.00), and to play in the final group on Sunday (41.00).

And if you’re still ramping up your sports betting for Round 1 – most bet by tickets at BetMGM are Woods to fire a bogey-free round (29.00) today, to shoot 72 or lower (2.15), to hit the fairway with opening tee shot (1.67), to birdie any par 3 hole (1.74), and to make an eagle (10.00).

Scottie Scheffler, who won The Masters in 2022, has seen the biggest line movement (10.00 open to 6.00 now) at BetMGM. Over at BetRivers, Scheffler is the heavy favourite at 5.00, substantially lower than the other main contenders – Rory McIlroy (11.00), Jon Rahm (12.00), Xander Schauffele (15.00), then Brooks Koepka (19.00).

Over at DraftKings, most bet golfers by handle are Scheffler, Koepka, Rahm, Schauffele and McIlroy, in that order. By bets it’s Scheffler, Rahm, Koepka, McIlroy, and Schauffele.

According to FanDuel, Xander Schauffele and Brooks Koepka both to Finish in the Top 10 (Incl. Ties); Schauffele, Koepka and Hideki Matsuyama all to Finish in the Top 10 (Incl. Ties); and Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy both to Finish in the Top 10 (Incl. Ties) are seeing the most interest on the special markets.

Group 14 at 1:12 p.m. EST today is the one to watch – Scheffler, McIlroy and Schauffele.

And What About the Canadians?

Corey Conners tees it up with Zach Johnson and Jasper Stubbs this morning at 11:30 a.m. Canadian Open champ Nick Taylor is off at 12:18 p.m. with Joaquin Niemann and Russell Henley. Former Masters champ (2003) Mike Weir tees off at 2 p.m. EST, in a group with Ryo Hisatsune and Neal Shipley. Adam Hadwin is off at 2:24 p.m. EST with Fred Couples and Stewart Hagestad.

Odds for the Canucks at NorthStar Bets: Conners 67.00 (12.00 Top 5, 6.00 Top 10, 2.50 Top 20), Hadwin 201.00 (31.00 Top 5, 13.00 Top 10, 5.00 Top 20), Taylor 201.00 (34.00 Top 5, 15.00 Top 10, 5.50 Top 20), Weir 2001.00 (401.00 Top 5, 126.00 Top 10, 41.00 Top 20).

According to BetMGM, someone put down $24,088 to win $96,352 on Scheffler to win (5.00), while someone else put down $5,000 to win $500,000 on Phil Mickelson to win (101.00).
