Who Will Win Race Across The World 2024?

After spending some downtime on the beautiful beaches surrounding Thailand's Koh Phi Phi, the Race Across the World pairings got back on the road on Wednesday night destined for their sixth checkpoint.

The teams were tasked with making their way from Thailand, through Malaysia, and into the city of Bukittinggi, Indonesia.

The last leg ended with new leaders as Betty and James hit the summit for the first time in the race, closely followed by Stephen and Viv, and Alfie and Owen, with both pairings just 14 minutes behind.

Mother and daughter Eugenie and Isabel were just two hours and nine minutes behind the leaders, which made it the closest the race has been between the four pairings throughout the series.

However, the market has been shaken up on betting sites this week after Alfie and Owen ended episode six in the lead.

Viewers were kept in the dark about how far in front they are, but the best pals were talking about potentially having a 17 or 18-hour lead.

The episode ended with the other three pairings still in their wake, but it's not known who is now in second, third, or fourth place.

Alfie And Owen's Commanding Lead?

Owen and Alfie have moved into 1/2 favourites on specials betting sites to win this year's Race Across the World after hitting the front.

On Wednesday night's episode, the determined pair were the first of the teams to arrive in Malaysia, and while they didn't hang about for most of the leg, they still managed to spend some time volunteering for a nature project in the jungle, and on a beach cleaning up litter.

Like the other pairings, Owen and Alfie have hit some bumps in the road along the way, and they had another in episode six when their baggage was trapped in a locker.

It was a tense moment as the pair desperately tried to get their bags out while in the knowledge they could miss a vital bus transfer. Fortunately for the pair, they made their bus.

Despite the baggage hiccup, Owen and Alfie raced through Malaysia to reach Indonesia first out of the four teams.

During the leg, they prioritised taking overnight buses, and it paid off.

Betty's Bag Blunder

But mention buses in Malaysia to Betty and James, and it may bring back bad memories.

The pair were favourites on betting apps last week, but they have now slipped to 2/1 second favourites after a bag blunder far worse than Owen and Alfie's.

The pair stopped at a homestay in Malaysia, but upon arrival a devastated Betty realised she had left her bumbag on a bus and it had her and brother James' passports in.

If their passports were lost, the pair wouldn't be able to cross into Indonesia and would have been forced to exit the competition early, but, fortunately, the bag was recovered at the bus station.

Despite this, it appeared to cause them a big delay.

Another concern for Betty and James could be their budget.

At the beginning of the episode, they spent £80 on speedboat tickets straight away, meaning they had a fifth of their budget left for the remaining third of the journey.

However, they did do a spot of work for a diving school and managed to stay on a boat free of charge as a result.

While it's not known where they currently are in the race, they jumped on an 11-hour direct bus straight to Bukittinggi after reaching Sumatra.

But Eugenie and Isabel, and Stephen and Viv both had to change buses midway through their journey on the Indonesian island, while en route to the checkpoint.

Eugenie And Isabel Catch Stephen And Viv

Eugenie and Isabel were nearly two hours behind second-place Stephen and Viv when the pairings reached Koh Phi Phi, but they ended up seeing them a couple of times during the last leg.

The mother-and-daughter pair are 3/1 third favourites on new betting sites to win the race, followed by Stephen and Viv, who are propping up the market at 7/2.

In the latest episode, Eugenie and Isabel worked in a rice field in Malaysia and were the second team to arrive in Malacca, where all the teams needed to go to board a ferry to Sumatra.

They had a minor issue when they got stuck in a lift, but the pair managed to catch up with Stephen and Viv before getting the ferry to Sumatra.

Viv took over the finances for her and Stephen in the latest episode, much to Stephen's concern, but, at times, it ensured they got on the road quicker.

The workaholics still managed to stop off at the beautiful Thai island of Koh Lipe, where they worked in a beach bar.

As has been proved earlier in the series, big leads can be chased down, so Owen and Alfie shouldn't be too confident just yet.
