Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills wrapped up the AFC East for the fourth successive season last year, but they have failed to make it to the Super Bowl.

After losing the AFC Championship game to the Chiefs in January, the Bills have been eliminated at the divisional round in each of the last three seasons.

The Bills have 10+ wins in each of the last five seasons. Looking at their schedule, will they make it six in-a-row?

Miami Dolphins

Mike McDaniel has won a lot of friends over his time in charge of the Dolphins, with the explosive nature of their offense.

McDaniel enters his third year as Dolphins head coach with a 20-14 record, but after Detroit won two playoff games last season, Miami now has the longest drought since a playoff win.

It's 24 years and counting, but can their schedule help them finish top of their division and earn a home playoff game?

New England Patriots

The Mayo/Maye era gets under way this season in New England with fans hoping the rookie head coach/quarterback partnership can be as successful as it was for Houston last season.

Jerod Mayo takes over as the new head coach from Bill Belichick and Drake Maye was the second of six quarterbacks taken in the first 16 picks of this year's draft.

After the Patriots started 0-1 in the previous three seasons, Mayo and Maye will be eager to get his first win on the opening weekend.

New York Jets

The football gods were not on the side of the New York Jets last season, as Aaron Rodgers' first season with the team lasted just four snaps before a ruptured Achilles left the Jets season in ruins.

After finishing the season fourth in their division, the Jets will hope Rodgers can return to his best form from the Green Bay years.

The Jets have recorded just one winning season in the last 13 years, and none in the last eight. Can Rodgers end one of the longest droughts in the NFL and lead the team to the playoffs for the first time in 14 seasons?

Baltimore Ravens

One of the problems with winning your division is that you are guaranteed a tough schedule the following season. Of the Ravens' 14 non-division opponents, 10 made the playoffs last year, including five division champions.

The AFC North was the most competitive division in the NFL last season, which saw all four teams combine for a league-high 43 wins. All four finished with winning records, Baltimore doing so for the eighth successive season.

But when it came to the playoffs, Baltimore's hopes were ended at their M&T Bank Stadium, where the Kansas City Chiefs beat them 17-10. A rematch with the Chiefs is the opening game for the Ravens this season, but this time it's at Arrowhead.

Cincinnati Bengals

A total of 66 quarterbacks started NFL games last season, and arguably the biggest injury was to Cincinnati's signal caller Joe Burrow.

The Bengals were primed for a good run at reaching their second Super Bowl in three seasons, but torn ligaments in Burrow's throwing hand ended his season in Week 11.

If Burrow can stay fit this season, there is a good chance the Bengals can challenge for a first ever Super Bowl trophy.

Cleveland Browns

Cleveland's reward for finishing last season by winning seven of their final 10 games to make the playoffs is to be handed the toughest schedule for 2024, based on their opponents' win percentage.

Joe Flacco was under center for the latter stages of the season after Deshaun Watson suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in Week 10 -- and missing three games before that.

If Watson stays fit and plays all 17 games, the Browns could go further than Wild Card Weekend.

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers schedule for 2024 is the third toughest after finishing with a 10-7 record last season. Head coach Mike Tomlin's record of not recording a losing season remains intact, but will he manage another with this year's schedule?

The trades to bring Justin Fields and Russell Wilson to Pittsburgh could be some of the best pieces of business done ahead of the new season, and the pair will bring a new dimension to the way the Steelers play.

The Steelers, who welcome the Chiefs on Christmas Day, won five of their six AFC North games last season and will need a similar record to achieve their goals this season.

Houston Texans

The Houston Texans are a good example for every team to follow. They have gone from winning three games in 2022 to 10 wins last year to make the playoffs.

Last season's success, which saw a first AFC South title in four years, was built on a rookie head coach/quarterback partnership. DeMeco Ryans trusted C.J. Stroud to start the season. The rookie quarterback repaid the faith shown in him.

Expectation levels are high for the season, but it's a tough-looking schedule for the Texans, who host the Ravens on Christmas Day.

Indianapolis Colts

Anthony Richardson's rookie season lasted just five games last season before an injury to his AC joint in his throwing shoulder ended his season.

Can he help Indianapolis end the NFL's worst run of results on the opening weekend?

The Colts have not won a season opener since beating the Raiders 21-17 in Indianapolis to start the 2013 season. Can they end that dismal record this year?

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars start the 2024 season with two QBs drafted No. 1 and 15 in the 2021 draft. Trevor Lawrence will remain as the starting QB, but former Patriot Mac Jones will be ready if called upon.

Last season the Jaguars played back-to-back games in London and won both to improve their record in London in the last three years to 3-1.

Another trip to London to play back-to-back games awaits this season, but they have mastered the overseas trip.

Tennessee Titans

There are key changes in Tennessee with Brian Callahan handed the head coach's role for the new season.

The Titans, who will be without talisman running back Derrick Henry this season, will hope to do something they haven't done since 2020.

Tennessee has started 0-1 in each of the last three seasons. A winning start will set the Titans up nicely for their more favorable schedule.

Denver Broncos

Sean Payton made a gutsy call to trade veteran quarterback Russell Wilson and draft Bo Nix in the first round with the 12th overall pick. Zach Wilson will be the backup.

The Broncos have the best opening weekend record in the AFC, despite losing their first games in each of the last two seasons.

Can they get off to a winning start this year?

Kansas City Chiefs

Does it matter who the Chiefs play in the regular season? They often find a way to make it to the AFC championship game.

A trip to San Francisco in a rematch of Super Bowl LVI is one of the standout games on the schedule for the Chiefs, who are looking to become the first team to three-peat in the Super Bowl era.

It seems unfair that the defending champions only have six games against playoff teams from last season, but that's down to pre-determined nature of the schedule.

Las Vegas Raiders

Antonio Pierce has been kept on as head coach after doing a great job as interim coach last season, ending the season 5-4. The honeymoon period is over.

The Raider Nation will demand success even though the team remains in the same division as the Chiefs. One of the biggest decisions Pierce had to make was who would lead their offense?

Is Gardner Minshew the man to bring the Raiders glory? Time will tell.

Los Angeles Chargers

All eyes will be on Jim Harbaugh on his return to the NFL as a head coach.

Harbaugh's last season in the NFL with the 49ers in 2014 ended with an 8-8 record, and he will expect to do better this season with Justin Herbert under center.

He inherits a team with the third most favorable schedule, based on their opponents' win percentage last season. Who's got it better than the Chargers? Not many.

Dallas Cowboys

It's the fifth year of the Mike McCarthy era, and it could be the last if the Cowboys don't make it to the Super Bowl, or the NFC Championship game at the very least.

Nine of their 17 games are against teams that made the playoffs last season, and five of those were division winners. That's the price you pay for winning your division.

No NFC team has a better record on the opening weekend than the Cowboys, who have a winning percentage of .629 in their 64 openers.

New York Giants

Being in a tough and competitive NFC East does not help Brian Daboll in his quest to lead the Giants to the playoffs for just the second time in eight years.

It's a make or break season for quarterback Daniel Jones, who knows he needs to get wins on the board early.

An opening day win can set the tone for the rest of the season. The Giants are 2-11 in Week 1 over the last 13 seasons.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles became the latest team to fall foul of the curse of the last team to lose a game in a season.

The 2006 Indianapolis Colts were the last team that season to be handed a loss, and they went on to win the Super Bowl with Peyton Manning at quarterback.

Philadelphia got off to a 10-1 start last season before the wheels came off. Besides the Cowboys, who won the NFC East last season, the Eagles face only one other division winner in the Buccaneers.

Philadelphia gets to "host" the first-ever NFL regular season game in Brazil, but will they get off to a winning start?

Washington Commanders

With the second overall pick in this year's draft, the Washington Commanders selected LSU's Heisman-winner Jayden Daniels, hoping he will be their franchise quarterback for the next 10 years.

After years of misery for the Commanders, things might get a little worse before they start getting better with Daniels under center.

Washington lost all six division games last year, and that cannot happen this season.

Chicago Bears

Optimism in Chicago has never been as high as it is right now, and that's before the Caleb Williams era gets underway.

The No. 1 overall pick from USC has swagger, and if he can get a grasp of the offense early, then the Bears could go from worst to first, especially if they start their campaign with a few wins.

Williams, who is the favorite on betting apps to be named offensive rookie of the year, will get to represent the Bears in London for one of their games on what doesn't look to be the toughest schedule.

Detroit Lions

What a time it is to be a Detroit Lions fan! From winning three games in 2021 to nine wins in 2022 to 12 wins last year, Detroit is a team on the rise.

The team entered the 2023 season with the longest wait for a playoff win. But for the first time in 32 years, the Lions not only ended that drought but won two playoff games for the first time since 1957.

Dan Campbell's team got off to a 5-1 start last year, but they face tough competition this time around. The Lions will attract a lot of interest on new betting sites.

Green Bay Packers

The Jordan Love project got off to a great start last year, and a 9-8 record is a good platform to build on this year.

The NFC North could be the most competitive division this year with Chicago and Detroit expected to do well. The Packers will be looking to start with a bang.

Green Bay has not started a season 0-2 since 2006, which is the longest run of any team in the NFL.

Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings picked up quarterback J.J. McCarthy with the 10th overall pick in the draft, and while Sam Darnold and Nick Mullens are also in the quarterback room, it looks like a battle to be the starter awaits.

Minnesota lost their opening three games last season, and it might be another slow start this year, especially if McCarthy begins the season under center.

The Vikings were the first team to win at all three London stadiums, and a trip to London in October is another chance for the team to bond for the remainder of their schedule.

Atlanta Falcons

Winning their first two games gave Falcons fans hope that 2023 could have been their season, but that was as good as it got for rookie quarterback Desmond Ridder.

In a dreadfully weak division, Atlanta finished third with a 7-10 record. Kirk Cousins will start the season following his trade from the Vikings, and if he can guide them to three more wins than last season, they should make the playoffs.

Atlanta's schedule is statistically the most favorable in the league.

Carolina Panthers

The 2023 season was a disaster for the Panthers. Their 2-15 record was the worst in the league, and having traded their first round pick to the Bears, they missed the chance to pick former Heisman QB Caleb Williams.

Carolina's schedule this season is one that can yield better results. Besides the Buccaneers, who won their division last season, the Panthers have just three games against playoff teams from last season.

The schedule could have been a lot worse for new head coach Dave Canales, who gets to coach his team in Munich.

New Orleans Saints

The Saints will feel they can make a solid run for the NFC South division this year. Derek Carr is in his second season leading the offense, and their defense was ranked eighth in points allowed.

The Saints missed out on finishing at the top of the division because of their win percentage against common opponents with the Buccaneers.

New Orleans has the best winning Week 1 streak, and a win this year will extend that sequence to six.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Bucs won three successive division titles last season, but can they extend that to four?

They have opened 2-0 in each of the last three years, and they will hope to navigate their opening two games successfully.

Baker Mayfield earned a long-term contract to lead the Bucs offense, and that continuity should serve Tampa Bay well this year with a most than favorable schedule.

Arizona Cardinals

The last time the Cardinals won back-to-back games was in the 2021 season, and there was a bye between those wins. If they don't win back-to-back games this season, heads will roll.

Following a solid draft that addressed a number of issues on the Cardinals depth chart, Arizona is hoping Kyler Murray can stay fit and play every game and lead them to a successful season.

Murray, who has missed 18 games in the last three seasons, needs a strong start in a very competitive NFC West.

Los Angeles Rams

The Rams are another team that will be hoping their quarterback stays healthy. Matthew Stafford hasn't played all 17 games in the previous two seasons.

Sean McVay's team won seven of their last eight games to make the playoffs last season, but they will be without Aaron Donald, who retired in March.

The Rams have not started 0-2 since 2011, and if they can get off to a reasonable start, anything is possible.

San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers go into the 2024 season as the favorites on NFL betting sites after losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVI in February.

In the last two years, San Francisco is 16-2 after Week 8, but they have not managed to end those seasons with the Vince Lombardi trophy in their possession.

Their offense was ranked second last season, while their defense was eighth overall. Despite having to play nine playoff teams from last season, San Francisco should be the NFC's representatives in Super Bowl LVII.

Seattle Seahawks

It's a new era in Seattle as Mike McDonald takes over head coaching duties from Pete Carroll, and we will soon find out how the Seahawks play in their season opener.

McDonald will need to get Seattle's vociferous support on his side, and if the rookie head coach gets off to a winning start, then he will have the full support of the "12th Man."

The pressure will be on Geno Smith to deliver right from the opening snap.
