The best football bookmakers offer outright odds on which team will win the title. The odds change constantly over the course of the season, depending on the form of the leading contenders. You can often find great value by betting on this popular market.

Juventus have been the odds-on favourites in the Serie A winner odds at the start of every season in recent times. They won the Scudetto three times in a row under the expert tutelage of Antonio Conte from 2012 to 2014. Massimiliano Allegri then took the reins, leading the Bianconeri to another five consecutive titles before leaving the club in 2019. They appointed Maurizio Sarri as his replacement, and just about clinched their ninth straight title, despite regularly putting in underwhelming performances.

Sarri was sacked after just one season in the hot seat, and club legend has Andrea Pirlo has now been parachuted in. The board hopes he can improve results and performance levels, as a number of their rivals are emboldened and ambitious. Chief among the chasing pack are Inter Milan, who have spent freely since hiring Conte as their manager in 2019. They have Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez up front, and they finished just a point behind Juventus last term.

Yet it is by no means a two-horse race. AC Milan have been in sparkling form since bringing veteran forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic back to the club. They made a flying start to the 2020/21 campaign, including an eye-catching victory over Inter in the big Milan derby, and they have been a popular selection among punters betting on Serie A this season. Napoli are also in imperious form after Gennaro Gattuso reversed their ailing fortunes.

Atalanta would have to be regarded as a wild card in the title race too. Gian Piero Gasperini’s men banged in an astonishing 98 goals last season and finished third. They have kept the bulk of the squad together for the 2020/21 campaign, and they have already blown several teams away with their attacking prowess. Throw in the likes of Roma and Lazio, and the title race looks fascinating, with many teams sensing that a weakened, ageing Juventus squad can be knocked off their perch.

Serie A Top Goalscorer Market

The race to be named top goalscorer provides a fascinating sideshow during the Serie A title battle each season. The league boasts some of the world’s finest strikers, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Romelu Lukaku, Ciro Immobile, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Edin Dzeko, Lautaro Martinez, Duvan Zapata, Paulo Dybala, Alvaro Morata, Victor Osimhen, Dries Mertens and Fabio Quagliarella, so competition in this market is fierce.

You might expect the Ronaldo to walk off with the Capocannoniere title each season thanks to his outrageous aerial ability, lethal finishing and dynamic movement. However, he has not actually managed to capture the award since moving from Real Madrid to Juventus in 2018. In fact, a Juventus player has not won the Capocannoniere award since Alessandro del Piero in 2007/08, which is pretty remarkable when you consider how dominant The Old Lady has been over the past decade.

The irrepressible Immobile finished as top scorer last season after scoring 36 times during the 38-game season. Ronaldo was second, with 31 goals, followed by Lukaku on 23. In the previous campaign, Quagliarella hit 26 goals to be named top scorer, three clear of Zapata, with Krzsztof Piatek third and Ronaldo fourth. Immobile shared the award with Mauro Icardi, now of PSG, in 2017/18, and Dzeko won it the previous year.

Immobile also finished as top scorer in the 2013/14 season while at Torino, so he could well be the greatest threat to Ronaldo seizing individual glory this term. Yet Lukaku came flying out of the blocks, scoring give goals in his opening five games, while the likes of Andrea Belotti, Francesco Caputo and Martinez have been prolific, and you can never write off Ibrahimovic – the winner in 2009 and 2012 – so the Serie A top goalscorer odds should remain exciting throughout the season.

Serie A Betting Tips & Strategy

Follow these betting tips to make a success of Serie A betting this season:

Consider Each-Way Betting

An each-way wager actually includes two bets – one on a team to win, and one of a team to “place”. If you bet each-way on a team winning the league in the Serie A outright odds, one bet will go on them finishing first, and the other will go on them finishing either first or second. If they win the league, both bets pay out. If they finish second, only the place bet pays out. You will receive a third of the odds if they place, so any teams priced at 3/1 (4.00) or higher are attractive for each-way bets.

For example, if you bet £10 each-way on Napoli to win the league at 9/1, with a total stake of £20, you would earn a return of £140 if they finish first, but you would still earn a £40 return if they finish second, thus doubling your money. If you bet each-way on top goalscorer, you get a quarter of the odds if that player finishes second or third in this list.

Conduct Extensive Research

Try to avoid betting on teams that you have never seen play. Watch as many games as possible, and at least catch up on the highlights each week. Before betting on a game, check the recent head-to-head record between the clubs. Some teams really struggle or thrive against particular opponents, and you can find great value Serie A winner odds on them.

Also factor in motivation levels and fatigue. If a team has played a midweek game in Europe, they might struggle against a team that has rested all week. If a team has nothing left to play for – they might have already won the title, sewn up a top four spot or been relegated – motivation could be an issue. Religiously check injury lists. If a top striker, key defender or goalkeeper is on the treatment table, results could go south. Also check out our Serie A betting predictions for expert tips on Serie A winner betting odds and Serie A outright odds before betting on Serie A.

Consider Away Teams

Most games are now played in empty stadiums or partially empty stadiums as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. It means that home advantage has largely been eradicated, and you can often find great value by considering Serie A betting on the away team.

Look Beyond the Winner Market

Most beginners will simply bet on the Serie A winner odds on a particular game. However, you can often find much better value by digging a little deeper. For example, if Juventus are the 1/3 favourites to beat Verona, you would only receive a profit of £3.33 by placing a £10 bet, which might not be particularly appealing. Instead, you might consider Juventus to win and under 4.5 goals, Juventus to win to nil, Juventus -1.25 Asian handicap or Juventus half-time / full-time, as each would result in a larger profit if successful.

Instead of betting on a huge outsider in the Serie a winner betting odds on a particular game, you might like to back them with a draw no bet option, or double chance, or give them a plus Asian or European handicap.

Serie A Betting Markets

There are hundreds of exciting Serie A betting markets for you to choose from, and they can be broadly divided into three categories:

Pre-Match Betting

This involves betting on a particular game before it has kicked off. The best Serie A betting sites often release Serie A odds on each game around a week before kick-off, and the odds change depending on where the money goes. The most popular pre-match betting market is on the result – home win, draw or away win – but you can also bet on first goalscorer, last goalscorer, anytime goalscorer, draw no bet, double chance, win to nil, and much more.

A popular Serie A betting market focuses on total goals. You can bet on the exact amount of goals in a game, but most people prefer to bet on over/under. You can wager on over or under 2.5 goals, over or under 3.5 goals, and so on. This is an attractive Serie A betting option, as you do not have to specify which team will win. You can also combine it with both teams to score for more value – for example, both teams to score and over 2.5 goals, or both teams to score and under 4.5 goals.

Many punters like handicap markets too. A handicap allows you to gain more value by betting on the favourite. If you bet on Juventus -1, they would need to win by two clear goals for your bet to pay off, but you would earn more attractive odds than if you simply bet on them to win. You can also cover yourself when betting on an underdog. If you bet on Crotone +1.5 Asian handicap, they could win, draw or lose by a single goal, and your bet would pay off in each outcome.

In-Play Betting

This refers to live betting on the game after it has kicked off. Many punters prefer In-Play Betting on Serie A odds, because it allows you to get a feel for the match before parting with your hard-earned cash. Oddsmakers at the best Serie A betting sites will release updated odds as the game develops, and they are reacted as quickly as punters, so you can find some great live betting value.

You can also enjoy fast markets at some bookmakers providing Serie A odds. It allows you to bet on things like whether there will be a throw-in in the next minute or whether they will be a corner in the next five minutes. The list of live Serie A odds on offer is extremely extensive at the top Serie A betting sites.

Futures Betting

This is a long term wager on the outcome of a particular event, like the title winner, the top four race or the relegation scrap. The Serie A betting sites release Serie A outright odds, Serie A top goalscorer odds and so on at the start of each season, beginning with a favourite and going all the way down to the rank outsider. These Serie A outright odds change over the course of the season depending on form and betting action, and you can check out many Serie A betting predictions to help you make your wagering choices.
