Next Huddersfield Town Manager Odds: Rosenior Lined Up For Terriers Job

Huddersfield Town are on the lookout for a new manager and the best betting sites have drawn up a list of potential candidates.

The Terriers will be competing in League One next season following their relegation from the Championship. It was a disappointing campaign for the Yorkshire outfit, who went through three different managers on their way to a 23rd-place finish.

Andre Breitenreiter, the third of those coaches, departed once demotion was confirmed. That leaves Huddersfield searching for their next boss ahead of their first campaign outside the top two tiers since 2011/12.

Who will be next through the door at the John Smith’s Stadium? Let’s take a look at the latest odds.

Rosenior The Early Favourite

Liam Rosenior was relieved of his duties as Hull City manager, in what was one of the more surprising decisions, given the Tigers only missed out on the Championship play-offs by three points.

Most fans of the club were disappointed to see Rosenior given his marching orders, but there is a strong feeling that the former defender won't be out of a job for long.

Rosenior is the 5/1 favourite for the Huddersfield job, but he may feel he deserves another crack at the Championship following his exploits there in 2023/24.

Pearson Next On The List

A much more experienced option to take over as Huddersfield manager would be Nigel Pearson, who is available at 6/1 on football betting sites

Again, though, the question is whether the former Bristol City manager would be willing to drop down to the third tier of the English game.

Pearson has a wealth of experience of managing in the second tier, but he may be tempted by a League One opportunity if the situation suited his needs.

Duff And Cooper Both In The Frame

Michael Duff and Steve Cooper are both listed at 8/1. It would be a major coup if Huddersfield could attract the latter, who was at the helm of Nottingham Forest earlier this term.

Not many managers go from the Premier League to League One in one move and Cooper is unlikely to be interested in an offer from Huddersfield.

Duff is a more realistic target. Sacked by Swansea City last year, the ex-Barnsley head coach has been linked with a return to his former employers at Oakwell.

Huddersfield may also be monitoring the Northern Irishman, who took Barnsley to the League One play-off final in his last season in their dugout.

Williamson And Neil Among The Outsiders For Role

Mike Williamson is a 12/1 shot in this market. His MK Dons side were demolished by Crawley Town in the League Two play-offs, losing 8-1 on aggregate.

But Williamson deserves credit for taking the club into the end-of-season tournament given they were 16th when he assumed control in October.

Williamson has certainly shown talent in his first job as a Football League manager, but MK Dons will do everything they can to keep hold of him.

Alex Neil can be tipped by punters at odds of 14/1 on betting apps. Unlike Williamson he is currently out of work, so no compensation would be due.

Neil struggled at Stoke City in his last job but would be a solid pick-up for a League One team.

Challinor, Ainsworth And McCann May Be Considered

Dave Challinor, Gareth Ainsworth and Grant McCann are among the managers priced at 16/1 for the Huddersfield job.

Challinor will be difficult to prise away from Stockport County, whom he led to promotion from League Two last term.

The former centre-back would surely not leave his current job for another role in League One.

Ainsworth is out of work and has a great track record of success in this division, albeit only with one club in Wycombe Wanderers.

McCann could be obtainable after Doncaster Rovers fell short in the League Two play-offs and he knows how to win the League One title.

The Northern Irishman was in charge of Hull City when they returned to the Championship at the first attempt during the Covid-affected 2020/21 season.

Robinson And Beale Among The Outsiders

Karl Robinson has done well in League One with the likes of MK Dons and Oxford United. He is currently in the fourth tier with Salford City, whom he joined in January.

Salford will not want to lose Robinson so early in his tenure, but the 43-year-old is 16/1 for the Huddersfield job.

Michael Beale’s reputation has taken a major hit at Rangers and Sunderland, so he may have to drop down a level for his next job.

Beale is priced at 16/1, as are Lee Johnson, Paul Cook and Paul Heckingbottom.
