Our Verdict: ToonieBet is a site that integrates data and statistics into the betting experience. It's also an official CFL betting partner with lots of options for betting on Canadian Football.

ToonieBet is a site designed for bettors who think strategically.

The 'Insights' feature, for example, stood out to me when I first tried this sportsbook.

For the likes of NHL and football bets, you are presented with stats and head-to-head data beside relevant odds - which I find helpful for identifying smart plays.

ToonieBet has odds for over 30 sports and same-game parlays work for all of the most popular leagues.

As an official CFL partner, the site offers more Canadian Football betting options than I’ve seen at other Ontario sportsbooks, including SGPs.

On the downside, while live streams are available to watch, they're restricted to niche sports and less popular leagues.

I've also noticed a few gaps in the odds when betting here, where competitors have offered better prices.

Range of Sports to Bet on at ToonieBet

There are around 33 different sports available to bet on at any given time, although the number varies depending on the time of year and the sports calendar.

As mentioned, ToonieBet is the official betting partner of the CFL and this shows. I get far more CFL prop bets to choose from here than I do with the majority of CFL betting sites.

The same-game parlay builder is extensive, covering all NHL, MLB, NBA and NFL games, as well as the CFL.

I bet on a CFL game between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and had 13 choices of bets to combine.

Clicking into a game reveals the 'Insights' tab, which sits between the SGP and player prop tabs. This pairs the odds with relevant statistics.

I used one of these statistical insights to bet on the Buffalo Sabres to win after reading that they had won 12 of their last 19 home games in regulation.

Odds across major leagues are competitive. Although when I compared ToonieBet's NHL odds with leading NHL betting sites, I found it lagged behind on value once or twice.

Live Betting at ToonieBet

ToonieBet’s live betting platform has all the essentials, with lots of live odds to bet on during games.

While you won’t find streams for big leagues like the NHL or NFL, ToonieBet does offer live video for Esports, and niche markets like European basketball.

This isn't a huge win for bettors in Ontario, although it encouraged me to try out a few markets I'd normally ignore.

When you tap into the live betting section, the streaming button can be toggled on or off beneath the list of live sports. This shows all current events that come with live video.

When I was betting on an ATP tennis game, I could always wager on the next point winner, which is reflective of ToonieBet's overall depth when it comes to live betting.

User Experience & Site Design

ToonieBet’s layout is functional, not flashy.

The white-and-gold theme makes things easy to find, with odds neatly organised by sport, but also by popularity so you're not seeing needless information.

What sets the user experience apart is the integration of data - statistical insights pre-game and graphical game trackers with live stats when a game has started.

One thing I don't like is the flashing logo at the top of the screen on desktop. It felt like this was slowing things down on a few occasions when I was trying to load pages.

I put the app to the test by using the streaming function and found no major buffering issues or loading delays caused by the streams.

Overall, it competes well with the best Canadian betting apps and is worth downloading.

I tested live chat, email and the phone line - each performed well.

The Bottom Line: Final Thoughts on ToonieBet

There's a lot to like about ToonieBet - even if it's not at the level of the very best Canadian betting sites just yet.

If you're a CFL fan who likes a bet, I highly recommended this sportsbook. Likewise if you're someone who values same-game parlay options.

But in order to match the biggest names in the business like bet365, DraftKings, or BetMGM, ToonieBet should roll out some more special features, like live streams of major leagues.

If this happens, I will revise my 7.8/10 rating upwards.
