David de Gea is still a free agent and the best betting sites continue to offer a market on where he will end up next.

Manchester United decided to part ways with their long-serving goalkeeper over the summer, with Erik ten Hag bringing in Andre Onana as his replacement.

The Cameroon international has had his ups and downs at Old Trafford so far, but few believe United should have retained De Gea instead.

The Spaniard is still an excellent shot-stopper though, and it is a surprise that he is still out of the game.

Who will De Gea sign for next? Let’s take a look at the latest betting odds.

Newcastle New Favourites After Pope Injury

Newcastle United have struggled with injury problems in the last few months and they recently lost Nick Pope, their first-choice goalkeeper.

That is a huge blow to Eddie Howe’s team, who have promoted Martin Dubravka as a short-term replacement. Newcastle will no doubt look to bring someone else in.

De Gea is available and has bags of Premier League experience. He can be backed at Evens on football betting sites to sign for Newcastle, who are targeting another top-four finish under Howe.

De Gea’s main weakness is his ability with the ball at his feet, but that is not one of Pope’s strong points either and this is certainly one to watch.

Barcelona And Real Betis Could Offer Return To Spain

De Gea made 84 appearances for Atletico Madrid before his move to Manchester United in 2011, when he was just 20 years of age.

He has not played in Spain since and would no doubt consider any offers from clubs in La Liga.

Barcelona are one option at 6/1. Marc-Andre ter Stegen, the No.1 goalkeeper at the Camp Nou, is sidelined for around two months with a back problem, which could open the door to De Gea.

Real Betis are available at the same price. Manuel Pellegrini could move for De Gea, although the Verdiblancos have not yet done so despite his availability for many months.

MLS Move More Likely Than Old Trafford Return

There was talk earlier in the campaign that De Gea could be in line for a dramatic return to Manchester United, who are priced at 8/1 with BetVictor

It is hard to see that happening for as long as Ten Hag is in the Old Trafford dugout.

Even if he leaves, De Gea would have to settle for being No.2 and accept a significantly reduced pay packet.

A switch to MLS (6/1) would make much more sense. The salary and lifestyle on offer in the United States appeals to many ageing European stars, and De Gea would be a guaranteed starter for whichever club he joins.

No Indication Bayern Munich Or Real Madrid Are Keen

Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are among the outsiders at odds of 16/1.

Bayern will need to find a long-term successor to Manuel Neuer some time soon, but De Gea is not the answer - he is 33 now and would not be able to match Neuer’s quality in possession.

Kepa Arrizabalaga

De Gea came close to joining Real Madrid in 2015, only for an administrative error to pull the plug on the deal at the last minute.

Madrid were strongly linked with him after Thibaut Courtois suffered a serious knee injury, but the Blancos went with Kepa Arrizabalaga instead

It is therefore hard to see De Gea ending up at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

De Gea Could Wind Down Career In Turkey Or Saudi Arabia

Because of the time he is taking over deciding which club to join, we can assume that De Gea’s ideal move would be to a team in one of Europe’s top five leagues.

The 33-year-old has probably had offers from smaller footballing nations already, chiefly Saudi Arabia.

He is available at 16/1 with betting apps to end up in the Pro League or in Turkey’s Super Lig, although the latter was suspended this week after a club owner assaulted a match official.

De Gea is no doubt holding out for better offers first, but Saudi Arabia or Turkey could be his next destination in the end.
