Irish Grand National Tips: Don't Discount The Veterans

We have already had the Aintree and Scottish Grand Nationals this month, but attention now turns to Fairyhouse racecourse for the Irish equivalent.

With 30 runners tackling stiff fences over three miles and five furlongs, the Irish Grand National is not for the faint-hearted and can potentially throw up some surprising results.

Four years ago, Freewheelin Dylan shocked the racing world when winning at odds of 150/1 with betting sites, and we are hoping to get another big-priced winner this year.

Here, we have put forward two each-way tips that should run well at double-figure odds.

Irish Grand National Each-Way Tip 1:

Any Second Now @ 20/1 With William Hill (6 Places)

Over the last few years, the Irish National has seen more unexposed young horses come out on top, but that doesn't necessarily mean that older horses should be ignored.

At 13-years-old, Any Second Now's best days are behind him, but he has shown this season that he still retains plenty of ability.

The veteran chaser was rated at 167 in his peak, but has now slipped to a career low chasing mark of 139.

Twelve months ago, he lost by just over a length in this race, and he has run admirably in two starts this season.

He seems to like this track, and heavy ground will help.

He is carrying a nice weight and will hopefully be passing tired rivals in the latter stages with Mark Walsh onboard.

A price of 20/1 with horse racing betting sites is generous, and he should prove to be a good each-way bet.

Irish Grand National Each-Way Tip 2:

Dunboyne @ 33/1 With BoyleSports (6 Places)

Another horse entering the veteran stages of his career, Dunboyne has found a new lease of life this season after changing trainers.

The 10-year-old's career was in freefall with Gordon Elliott, but he has rolled back the years since joining Ian Donoghue.

His Ulster National win last month made it two from two for his new trainer.

If he continues in the same vein for Donoghue, he is nicely weighted to run a big race at a price of 33/1 with betting apps.

Testing ground holds no fears, and he should be another horse staying on gamely to the line.
