Australia vs Denmark Predictions:

The Socceroos should clinch a place in the World Cup Round of 16 if they manage to avoid defeat against Denmark in their final group stage clash.

Betting sites make the Danes the heavy favourites to secure victory in this crucial match for both teams.

However, Graham Arnold’s men can take a great deal of confidence from their impressive performance during their 1-0 win against Tunisia on Saturday.

That result left the Socceroos second in Group D, and a draw against Denmark would now send them through to the knockout stage, provided Tunisia do not pull off a shock win against France.

It promises to be a nervy occasion for the fans back home, who will need to stay up until 2am AEDT on Thursday morning to watch it unfold.

We have assessed the options available at leading World Cup betting sites and found some interesting markets to consider.

Can Australia Cause An Upset?

The situation looked bleak for the Socceroos in their heavy opening defeat to France, the reigning world champions, but they bounced back in style against Tunisia.

Towering striker Mitchell Duke broke the deadlock with a superb header, and Australia defended heroically to protect their lead.

Several players rose to the occasion, but Stoke defender Harry Souttar and Celtic midfielder Aaron Mooy in particular stood out with colossal performances.

They will need to maintain that level of desire and commitment against a very dangerous Danish side in their final group stage match.

It has been a disappointing tournament thus far for Denmark, who are currently 10th in the FIFA world rankings, 28 places ahead of Australia.

They could only draw 0-0 with Tunisia in their opener, and they slumped to a 2-1 defeat against France last time out.

Their only goal at the tournament came from a defender, Barcelona’s Andreas Christensen, who headed in from a corner.

The Danish forwards have misfired, and Australia defended brilliantly against Tunisia, so this could be a tight clash, and the odds on Australia +1 Asian handicap look appealing.

Tip: Australia +1 Asian Handicap – 6/4 with Bet365

Back Under 2.5 Goals

There have been roughly 2.3 goals per game so far at this tournament, but that figure is skewed by England’s 6-2 win against Iran and Spain’s 7-0 victory over Costa Rica.

Under 2.5 goals has paid off in around two-thirds of the matches so far, and this could be another tense, low-scoring affair.

Australia have only scored twice in two matches, whereas Denmark are on 0.5 goals scored per game, so the odds on under 2.5 look very tempting on football betting sites.

There is no need for the Socceroos to take undue risks in this match, as a draw would be a great result for them.

Denmark will need to be the aggressors, as they cannot afford to lose, but they will be met by a wall of green and gold, and they may find it difficult to breach that wall.

Tip: Under 2.5 goals – 10/11 with Bet365

Back Denmark To Rack Up The Corners

The impetus will be on Denmark to take the game to Australia, so we should expect them to rack up more corners than the Socceroos.

In their opening match of the tournament, Australia gave up eight corners against France and earned just one of their own.

They conceded five corners against Tunisia and earned only two, so it is reasonable to expect Denmark to cover a -2 corner handicap in this game.

The Danes were awarded 11 corners during their 0-0 draw with Tunisia at the start of the tournament, and they have a lot of quality in wide areas, so they should win plenty of corners against Arnold’s men.

Mitchell Duke Will Provide Australia’s Main Goal Threat

Duke has an impressive record of nine goals from 23 appearances for the Socceroos, and he caused Tunisia plenty of problems in their last game.

He is tall, strong and blessed with excellent aerial ability, making him an ideal target from crosses and set pieces.

You can get 5/4 on betting apps for him simply registering a shot on target in this match, which looks like a tempting price.

It could be a powerful strike that sails past Kasper Schmeichel and into the back of the net, or a long-range effort that barely troubles the goalkeeper.

This market is settled using Opta data, and Opta counts headers as shots on target, so all Duke needs to do is hit the target once during the game for the bet to pay out.

Tip: Mitchell Duke Over 0.5 Shots on Target – 5/4 with Unibet
