It is hard to believe but Tuesday marks the one-month countdown until the end of the regular season.
Tonight features nine games on the schedule and there are some interesting matchups. The goal with NHL betting here is to get one focused with a blend of the “big picture and the little picture.”
Over that next month, the notion is to prime bettors and readers alike for what will come next – Stanley Cup betting. In the meantime, let’s get down to business.
Ottawa Senators vs. Nashville Predators
The Ottawa Senators come into Nashville on Tuesday night with heavy hearts after the passing of their owner, Eugene Melnyk. No matter the circumstances, it has to be awkward and strange for a team to play. This is a spot to immediately think about the moneyline.
Or is it?
This will be an Ottawa team that comes in inspired. That -225 moneyline just does not appear to carry as much value as it should. What about going against the spread on Tuesday night? That is an interesting choice too. Ottawa is 33-32 overall ATS while Nashville is 37-29.
Now, again, throw some of these records out the window. This is why sometimes the human element comes crashing into the mix. Few know what to expect emotionally from Ottawa. Melnyk was a complicated man and did some baffling things as an owner. However, he was still the owner of this team nonetheless.
Ottawa could come out in a blaze of glory or fall pan flat on Tuesday. The first 10 minutes will be intriguing, to say the least. For the Predators, this will be a different experience as well.
Something else to look at might just be the Over. Ottawa games have seen this trend lately where the Over has gone 5-3-1.
Overall on the season, it is just 25-38. This suggests that the Senators are playing at a different pace. They are allowing more shots, scoring chances, etc. On the other hand, their offense is approaching three goals a game.
Nashville is led by Roman Josi, Filip Forsberg, and Matt Duchene. They have the firepower to easily score three or more goals. The Predators’ latest run has featured offense and a lot of it. That team Over has connected eight of the last nine times with the overall performing the same.
There may be other directions to go on Tuesday but first, let’s look at one other game.
Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Boston Bruins
The Toronto Maple Leafs travel to Boston to face the Boston Bruins in what is always a spirited and chippy affair. The action begins at 7 p.m. ET from TD Garden in Boston.
The best aspect of wagering in the NHL is this. When there is a great equalizer, like an Auston Matthews anytime goal prop bet, there is all the more reason to take it. Matthews has 48 goals in 60 games this NHL season. He leads Toronto into battle with 11 goals in his past nine games.
Before anyone says this is a fluke, the center has three runs averaging nearly a goal-a-game over the last two seasons alone.
Boston has its own flock of goal scorers led by David Pastrnak. Pastrnak has 37 goals in 65 games this season for the Bruins and has a tradition of scoring goals against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
It is scary when it comes to NHL betting but between Matthews and Pastrnak, those are two nice anytime goal props just waiting to happen. There is one other aspect.
They have also hit five times and pushed once on Over scenarios. The trends on the Over are intriguing because tonight’s is set in the 6 to mostly 6.5 range. Toronto has seen this number hit 7 several times in this latest stretch of games. That may be an angle to look at along with the Toronto team over on Tuesday night.
