CFL Picks: Betting Advice for Sept. 1

Week 13 of the 2022 CFL season begins on Friday night as September blows in.

Let’s take a look at the four-game weekend schedule and give you CFL advice.

CFL Betting Advice: Against The Spread!

Last week, was not a good one for sports betting as several favourites took it on the chin.

Sometimes, little if anything goes right. Two of the three props did connect, and one of the picks barely. With injuries and lack of depth hurting teams, there is little one can do but get back to it!

Below is our ATS Table as Week 13 approaches.

With Week 13 starting in September, the Fall weather is not too far behind. So, let’s try to boost our Ontario Sports Bettors’ spirits while diving into the games. Here is the CFL Week 13 Schedule.

This Week’s Schedule with Moneylines (All Times Eastern)

  • Ottawa Redblacks 2.64 at Montreal Alouettes 1.51, Friday, 7:30 p.m.
  • Winnipeg Blue Bombers 1.56 at Saskatchewan Rough Riders 2.50, Sunday, 6 p.m.
  • Toronto Argonauts 1.98 at Hamilton Tiger-Cats 1.85, Monday, 1 p.m.
  • Edmonton Elks 5.55 at Calgary Stampeders 1.15, Monday, 4:30 p.m.

Game of the Week

Winnipeg Blue Bombers 1.56 at Saskatchewan Rough Riders 2.50

This game will be difficult. Winnipeg has problems covering the spread against Calgary. Saskatchewan just cannot beat Winnipeg, period. What does one do?

Saskatchewan did get revenge last week for losing to British Columbia the previous week at home. They were fortunate to play a banged-up Lions team at quarterback. Injuries have forced the Lions to acquire Vernon Adams Jr. from the Montreal Alouettes.

Winnipeg is also 7-4 against the spread. Only British Columbia is better at 7-3. The problem is four of the past five games have turned into close calls for the Blue Bombers. No one is sure when Winnipeg will play like Winnipeg again.

Now, the Rough Riders have more urgency here, or they should. The problem is Saskatchewan is just 3-3 at home and Winnipeg is 6-0 on the road. It is hard to go against Winnipeg when it has that winning mentality in hostile environments.

The Blue Bombers allow a league-low 19.2 points per game, and the Rough Riders give up just 23.5. That creates the recipe for a hard-nosed defensive battle.

The defense is a reasonable direction to pivot for sports bettors in a matchup where both teams want to play stingy. Even with that Over at 44.5, expect a game where 40-42 points might be the maximum.

Bet the Under with Winnipeg laying 3.5 points and cross your fingers.

Best Bet of the Week

Edmonton Elks 5.55 at Calgary Stampeders 1.15

The Over on the slate had been hitting at an excellent rate with Edmonton, but we lost on that last week. However, this week the Elks go on the road, and that is when the points seem to yield in bunches. They give up nearly 35 points a game on the road (32.8 overall).

Calgary put up almost 30 points in Winnipeg as they managed to come up one play short for a third time this season. Edmonton lost an ugly game by seven at home to Ottawa, the worst team in the league.

Edmonton was playing better lately until last week when they just laid an egg. They might be 3-3 on the road but are 0-7 against the division. That 12.5 points may be a little steep on the Calgary end.

Roll with the over here at 49.5, and if it slides to 48.5, it is okay to up the units. Calgary needs this game to stay ahead of Saskatchewan and if it hopes to catch British Columbia for second in the West.
