Gateway Casinos Across Ontario to Remain Closed

Gateway casinos across Ontario will remain closed “at least” until tomorrow because of what the company calls an “ongoing cyber security incident.”

Security Incident Began on Sunday

The problem began Sunday afternoon and impacted all 14 of its Ontario locations. The company issued a notice on its website that day telling people that all Gateway sites would be closed until further notice, asking people to follow them on Facebook for updates.

The latest update from the company says they are working to restore their IT systems. As of today, they do not have any evidence that personal information was affected.

“We want to reiterate that we have notified the relevant privacy officials about the incident and are working hard at restoring our systems,” the company said in a statement.

Chris de Burgh Concert Affected

The company also announced that because of the IT incident, they had to postpone the following shows: The Chris de Burgh concert scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed to April 27, and The Warrant, Quiet Riot and Helix concert scheduled for Saturday has also been postponed, with a new date to be confirmed.

Gateway Casinos & Entertainment is one of the largest gaming and entertainment companies in Canada, with 28 gaming properties in B.C. and Ontario, and two additional properties in Edmonton, Alberta.

The company employs around 7,000 people and has 339 table games (including 30 poker tables), 14,031 slots, 94 food and beverage outlets and 561 hotel rooms.

Ontario casinos affected are Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury, Thunder Bay, North Bay, Wasaga Beach, Innisfil, Casino Rama near Orillia, Clinton, Chatham, Hanover, Point Edward, Sarnia, Woodstock, and London.
