PointsBet Canada And The NHL Alumni Association Agree to Sports Betting Partnership

PointsBet Sportsbook Canada and the NHL Alumni Association (NHLAA) have agreed to terms that make PointsBet their exclusive sports betting partner in Canada and official partner in the United States.

What’s In The Deal?

As per the multi-year agreement, it will begin immediately and grant PointsBet Canada rights to use the numerous NHL alumni in marketing materials across North America.

"The NHL Alumni Association has always been at the top of our list as PointsBet entered Canada," Nic Sulsky, Chief Commercial Officer of PointsBet Canada, said in a news release.

"Saturday night hockey is an institution from coast to coast to coast. Being able to partner with the likes of Paul Coffey, Nicklas Lidstrom, Mike Vernon, and the countless other NHL Alumni that skated across our screens will allow us to deliver the authentically Canadian gaming experience that we want to bring sports fans."

PointsBets’ Expansion in North America

PointsBet, an Australian-native company, has made several deals and has expanded its own online sportsbook since arriving in the New Jersey back in January 2019.

Since then, sports bettors have been introduced to their innovative PointsBetting betting market.

This style of betting allows for players to wager on, for example, the over/under of a basketball. However, if you wager the over and the game does go over, you will win your wager multiplied by the number of points the score went over.

Conversely, it also works the same way when it comes to losses.

Other PointsBet Partnerships

Over the last few months, PointsBet has continued to expand and has agreed to other partnership deals.

From October 2021 on, PointsBet has become the official sports betting partner of the PGA Tour, has agreed to a partnership with Sportradar, and has also agreed to a partnership with Maryland Athletics.

"What made the partnership with PointsBet Canada so attractive was their appreciation of what makes our Alumni unique," Glenn Healy, President and Executive Director of the NHLAA, said in the release. "From the very beginning, PointsBet Canada understood our mission at the NHLAA, which is to 'Honour the Past' and provide hope and help for all NHL Alumni and their families. I am thrilled that they will also be embracing our players' roots and hometowns across the country where their NHL dreams began."

"It was clear in all of our conversations that PointsBet would play within the rules as a responsible gaming operator, and they were willing to partner with our players to deliver this important message to Canadians,” Healy added.

"We are fully supportive of government efforts to create a regulated gaming environment because it will create a level-playing field that not only protects consumers, but eliminates the illegal and grey-market," Scott Vanderwel, Chief Executive Officer of PointsBet Canada, said in the release. "We are thrilled to be able to join the NHLAA to use our collective voice to promote safe wagering as a legal operator."

Today in the U.S. , PointsBet is legal to operate as a mobile and online casino in Colorado, New Jersey, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, West Virginia, and Virginia.
