A week in from the legalization of Ontario sports betting, more major news has come out of Canada with the partnership agreement between Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment and PointsBet Canada.

We’ll run through this deal.

What Does the Partnership Mean?

Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment represents nine professional institutions within five different sports or eSports, that includes the Toronto Raptors, the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Toronto Argonauts, the Toronto Marlies, Toronto FC II, Raptors 905, and the Raptors Uprising Gaming Club.

"MLSE's franchises are some of our country's most iconic teams," Nic Sulsky, Chief Commercial Officer for PointsBet Canada, said in a news release. "We are excited to partner with an organization where winning and delivering championships is part of their DNA and resonates with fans across Ontario and Canada."

This multi-year agreement designates PointsBet Canada Sportsbook as the official sports betting partner of the following Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment professional teams: Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL), Toronto Marlies (AHL), Toronto Raptors (NBA), Toronto Argonauts (CFL), and Toronto FC (MLS).

"This is a historic deal for PointsBet Canada," Scott Vanderwel, Chief Executive Officer of PointsBet Canada, said in the release.

"You rarely get the opportunity to partner with an organization that spans across all four professional leagues through the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Raptors, Toronto FC and the Toronto Argonauts, and offers year-round entertainment within the sports market in Canada. We are thrilled to be partnering with MLSE on this innovative and exciting relationship.”

PointsBet is one of the fastest growing operators in North America and after accepting its first wager in the country's new legal sports betting market just 50 seconds after Ontario's regulated market launch, this deal is yet another step in the operator becoming one of North America’s top sportsbooks.

What separates PointsBet from most is how it owns and controls its own technology, which sees customers able to use some of the deepest depths of pre-game and in-play betting options in the world through a fantastic app available on both Android and iOS devices.

"We happily welcome PointsBet Canada as a partner of the Maple Leafs, Raptors, TFC and Argos as they enter the Ontario market with a well-established reputation in the sports betting industry," Jordan Vader, Senior Vice President, Global Partnerships, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, said in the release.

"We look forward to utilizing our partnership to provide 19+ fans of our teams with new and different ways of interacting and engaging with the sports they love with a trusted operator in PointsBet that prioritizes responsible gaming.”

PointsBet started out in Australia in 2015 and has rapidly become one of North America's fastest growing sportsbooks.

Their app is free to download, and it has constantly been ranked as one of the best out there with its slick design and easy-to-use nature.

Maple Leaf S&E’s Growing Partners List

Last week, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment agreed to a partnership with FanDuel Canada Sportsbook to become an official sports betting partner.

The deal also made PokerStars the official gaming partner.

Partnering with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment gives FanDuel a presence with the giant of pro sports in the province.

“We are thrilled to partner with Flutter Entertainment, a global leader and one of the most trusted operators in the sports betting industry,” Jordan Vader, Senior Vice President, Global Partnerships, MLSE, said in a news release.

The deal gives Flutter Entertainment, owners of FanDuel and PokerStars, the chance to have these two major brands showcased to some of Canada's most popular teams and loyal supporters.
