Upcoming Wings vs. Leafs

It seems like eons ago that the Maple Leafs (8-5-2) last played – a big 5-2 win over the upstart Vancouver Canucks last Saturday night at Scotiabank Arena.

The game is part of the NHL’s Global Series Sweden. The Minnesota Wild are also taking part (the Leafs play the Wild Sunday at 8 a.m. EST in their final game of the series, before heading back home).

The teams have played twice previously – Oct. 5, a 4-3 Leafs win, and Oct. 7, where the Wings won 4-3.

On the injury front, defencemen John Klingberg (undisclosed), is listed as day-to-day, and Timothy Liljegren (ankle), and Conor Timmins (lower body) are out for the Leafs.

For the Wings, goalie Ville Husso (personal reasons) is out, and Austin Czarnik (lower body) is also day to day.

G Ilya Samsonov is listed as “probable” to start today, with Alex Lyon confirmed as starter for the Wings.

Prediction #1 - Outcome: Wings 2.57; Leafs 1.57

Our money this morning is on the Leafs to win, in large part because the Wings played yesterday, against the Ottawa Senators, also in Stockholm, losing 5-4 in overtime. That back-to-back is going to be tough. The Leafs have had an extra day to rest and get used to the effects of the time difference.

Prediction #2 - Over/Under: 7.0, O: 2.17, U: 1.76

According to Pinnacle, O/U is 7.0. It’s going to be interesting to watch William Nylander this game, in his home country, off to a torrid start on the scoring sheet so far this season – eighth in NHL scoring with ten goals and 12 assists. Lined up on the left side, with John Tavares (also off to a solid start – 16 points in 15 games, 61.9 per cent faceoff win percentage) at centre and Tyler Bertuzzi at right wing, we’re expecting big things from Nylander this game. Go with the Over.

Prediction #3 - Prop Bets

Go with Nylander, Over 0.5 Assists (2.09), Over 0.5 Goals (2.18), or Over 0.5 Points (1.34), at Pinnacle. If Nylander produces, that will impact Bertuzzi. Go with Bertuzzi Over 0.5 Assists (3.04).

More Pinnacle odds for Wings vs. Leafs

Samsonov is starting in goal for the Leafs, and it’s been a struggle overall this season - .870 save percentage - despite the 5-2 win over the Canucks. Take a look at RW Lucas Raymond, also from Sweden – six goals on the season so far. He’s on the top line with Dylan Larkin and Alex DeBrincat. Raymond Over 0.5 Goals is 3.61 at Pinnacle; Over 1.5 Shots On Goal is 1.58.
