What Odds do Canadian Players Have at French Open?
Two Canadians remain in competition for a French Open title at Roland Garros.
Both Leylah Annie Fernandez and Felix Auger-Aliassime advanced to the third of the second major championship of the season. No. 17 Fernandez takes on No. 14 Belinda Bencic at 6 a.m. ET on Thursday and No. 7 Auger-Aliassime faces Filip Krajinović at 8 a.m. ET on Thursday.
Here’s a betting breakdown on each of the Canadians.
Fernandez an underdog
Fernandez has yet to drop a set in either of her wins at the French Open, defeating Kristina Mladenovic 6-0, 7-5 and Kateřina Siniaková 6-3, 6-2. But Fernandez will enter as a +188 moneyline underdog on FanDuel Sportsbook against the favored Bencic (-230).
Bencic has also yet to drop a set, beating Reka-Luca Jani 6-1, 6-1 and Bianca Andreescu 6-2, 6-4.
Fernandez won the only meeting between the two in February 2020 with a straight-sets win on an indoor hard court.
Fernandez has had mixed results with the clay season, going 4-3. She has an all-time record of 19-13 on the surface.
Last year Fernandez made news while making a run to the finals of the U.S. Open before losing to Emma Raducanu. Those looking to back Fernandez for a major title in Paris can get her at +5000 at DraftKings Sportsbook.
Iga Świątek is the overwhelming favorite to win the tournament at -250. Świątek is currently on a 30-match win streak and is the 2020 French Open champion.
Auger-Aliassime Bounces Back After Slow Start
It was almost an early exit for Auger-Aliassime. He dropped the first two sets to Juan Pablo Varillas 2-6, 2-6 in the first round then rallied to win the last three sets 6-1, 6-3, 6-3.
He would go on to make quicker work of Camilo Ugo Carabelli with a three-set win (6-0, 6-3, 6-3).
Auger-Aliassime is a -365 favorite at FanDuel Sportsbook over Krajinovic (+275). In four matches against Krajinovic, Auger-Aliassime is 2-2. Each player has won a match on indoor hard and outdoor clay surfaces.
Given the juggernauts at the top of the odds board, Auger-Aliassime is +12000 to win the French Open.
Novak Djokovic is the current favorite at +175, followed by Rafael Nadal (+350) and Carlos Alcaraz (+350).
If Auger-Aliassime gets past Krajinovic, Nadal likely awaits in the fourth round.
Nadal will face Botic van de Zandschulp in his third-round matchup.
