With the Canadian Football League opening its season tonight, it seems like a perfect time to look at a few “Most Outstanding Player” candidates.

Calgary opens up the 2022 season against Montreal tonight at 9 p.m. ET at Calgary.

The opening weekend features a staggered schedule with one game tonight, Ottawa at Winnipeg tomorrow, then two games on Saturday.

Let’s take a brief whirlwind look at some of those most outstanding player possibilities.

Can Bo Levi Mitchell Reignite The Magic?

Three-peat talk will be a burning question all season long in Winnipeg, but the polarizing story will be Bo Levi Mitchell in Calgary.

Sports betting enthusiasts are picking up on this early as his number of winning “Most Outstanding Player” has shortened from a couple of weeks ago. At 6.50, Levi-Mitchell now has the third-best odds of winning the award.

When the CFL Futures began, Levi Mitchell was at 8.50. The odds figure to shorten while the top two candidates stabilize. Calgary has two potential 1000-yard receivers. The Stampeders have the weapons on offense and an above-average offensive line.

Calgary has the depth to help turn the two-tine Most Outstanding Player into a three-time winner. Players like Reggie Begelton and Kamar Jorden certainly help. If the Stampeders are healthy, Levi Mitchell could get off to a great start and keep the momentum rolling.

Considering Zach Collaros The Favourite?

The CFL Futures have released even more numbers. These early numbers are exciting, and consider the 18-game schedule over 21 weeks. Multiple bye weeks for the candidates early will make following the race for Most Outstanding Player a little daunting at first.

Early on, the two-time defending champion Winnipeg Blue Bombers will face a challenge. They are the team that will be hunted. Collaros is 3.50, and he starts the season at home against Ottawa.

Even with Winnipeg losing one of their top two running backs, the overall depth is among the best in the CFL. Collaros could easily lead the league in passing and touchdowns. Could he toss 25 or more this year with a heavier emphasis on throwing the ball?

Collaros won the 2021 Most Outstanding Player going away. This year, he may have to look over his shoulder a little. However, Collaros will be hyper-focused.

What About Cody Fajardo?

Cody Fajardo (6.00) is no stranger to winning the Most Outstanding Player. He was a CFL All-Star player and took the West’s version of the award in 2019. Fajardo narrowly missed out on the prize.

In 2021, he was the team’s Most Outstanding Player but lost to Zach Collaros of Winnipeg. Fajardo was banged up last year and threw 11 interceptions. His dual-threat ability, when healthy, can win.

Some Final Thoughts

Expect a memorable race, and I think this all gets started tonight.

Get ready, Canadian Sports Bettors and fans alike, strap on in, and embrace one wild ride!
