Hollywood Casino is one of three PENN Entertainment brands heading to Alberta when the province's regulated iGaming market opens on 13 July 2026, alongside theScore Bet and theScore Casino. It's the dedicated casino-only product in PENN's portfolio, built for players who want a focused casino experience without a sportsbook sitting alongside.

The brand is well established in regulated markets. It has been live across Pennsylvania, Michigan, New Jersey and West Virginia for years, and launched in Ontario earlier in 2026, giving it a solid base of Canadian regulatory experience to build on in Alberta. Pre-registration is open now ahead of the 13 July launch.

Is Hollywood Casino Launching in Alberta?

Yes. PENN Entertainment has confirmed all three of its Ontario brands for Alberta, and Hollywood Casino is on the AGLC's Gaming Registration list

Alberta will be Hollywood Casino's first expansion beyond its established US markets and Ontario, with PENN's Chief Technology Officer Adam LaBerge noting that theScore's media app has a comparable user base in Alberta to Ontario, suggesting strong existing brand familiarity in the province.

Hollywood Casino launched in Ontario earlier in 2026, giving PENN's underlying platform its first experience operating in a regulated Canadian market outside Ontario. This gives Alberta players the confidence that compliance and technical groundwork has already been done.

Hollywood Casino Alberta - Games and Software

Alberta players can expect a games library built on what's already running in Ontario, spanning slots, table games, and live dealer content. In its established US markets, Hollywood Casino runs a library of 700 or more titles.

Slots

The slots library covers classic three-reel games, modern video slots and progressive jackpots, sourced from providers including IGT, NetEnt and Light & Wonder, alongside exclusive titles from PENN Game Studios such as Legendary Larry and Wuji Mines. The PENN Game Studios exclusives are worth highlighting - these are titles you won't find at competing Alberta operators, which gives Hollywood Casino a point of genuine differentiation on the slots front.

Progressive Jackpots

Hollywood Casino includes DropZone Jackpots, a network of progressive jackpots tied to eligible games. These are expected to be available from launch day in Alberta.

Table Games

The US apps carry the full set of table game staples, including blackjack, roulette, baccarat and video poker, with multiple variants of each. Alberta players should see a comparable lineup at launch, covering both standard rules and side bet versions.

Live Dealer

Live dealer content is expected at launch based on the Ontario product, covering blackjack, roulette and baccarat. Alberta players should find a solid live suite, though the depth here is smaller than some larger competitors entering the market.

Hollywood Casino Alberta - Mobile App

Hollywood Casino supports iOS and Android, and both apps are available to download now ahead of 13 July. The platform is also accessible via desktop browser for players who prefer not to download an app.

Although it shares underlying technology with theScore Casino, Hollywood Casino is positioned as a separate brand with its own identity, promotions and casino-focused layout. In practice that means a clean, straightforward interface - it isn't a cluttered multi-product app trying to do everything at once.

Hollywood Casino Alberta - Casino only, no Sportsbook

Hollywood Casino is a dedicated casino product. There is no sportsbook. If you're an existing theScore app user who wants sports betting alongside your casino play, theScore Bet is the PENN product for that. If you want a standalone casino experience with a focused interface, Hollywood Casino is the one to look at.

It's a similar situation to JackpotCity in that regard. For Alberta players who just want to play slots and table games without being nudged toward sports betting markets, the casino-only focus is a feature rather than a gap.

Hollywood Casino Alberta - Responsible Gambling

As a licensed Alberta operator, Hollywood Casino is required to meet the AGLC's responsible gambling standards. Based on the existing product in Ontario and the US, tools available include deposit limits, session reminders, cooling-off periods and self-exclusion.

Hollywood Casino is expected to integrate with Alberta's centralised self-exclusion register, preventing platform access for any player who has self-excluded provincially. That means a single self-exclusion request covers every licensed Alberta iGaming platform simultaneously, online and land-based.

Hollywood Casino Alberta vs Hollywood Casino Ontario - What's Different?

The Ontario launch earlier in 2026 is the closest reference point for what Alberta players will get. The games library, platform layout and PENN Play integration are all expected to carry over directly.

PENN CEO Jay Snowden has noted that Ontario is PENN Interactive's strongest market in North America in terms of market share and contribution margin, and that he expects similar results in Alberta.

That's a meaningful signal of how seriously PENN is taking the Alberta launch, and suggests Alberta players will get the full product rather than a scaled-back version.

The minimum gambling age in Alberta is 18, a year lower than Ontario's 19.

Our Verdict

Hollywood Casino arrives in Alberta as a focused casino product backed by one of the largest entertainment companies in North America.

It's not trying to be everything to everyone. There's no sportsbook, no poker room, but I think that's actually a reasonable position in a market where several competitors are launching multiple-product platforms simultaneously.

What it does bring is genuinely interesting. The PENN Game Studios exclusives give it titles you won't find anywhere else in Alberta, the DropZone Jackpots network adds a progressive jackpot angle, and the Live Vegas streaming from MGM Grand is a nice touch that sets it apart visually from the competition.

It's a solid day-one option for Alberta players who want a dedicated casino experience without the noise of a sportsbook alongside it. Whether it stands out in a market with 50-plus operators is a question that'll be answered in the months after launch, but the foundations are decent and the Ontario track record gives me reasonable confidence the product will arrive in good shape on 13 July.
