Rory McIlroy Ryder Cup Odds: The Panel Pick Out Three Tips For Europe Star

The wait is almost over as Europe and the United States prepare to fight it out for the biennial Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black.
The competition hosts have won the last five editions, so it makes sense that Keegan Bradley’s team are the 8/11 favourites on betting sites to regain the trophy following Europe’s comprehensive victory in Italy two years ago.
Luke Donald will once again lead the team in Farmingdale, New York, where much will be expected of US Masters champion Rory McIlroy.

The Northern Irishman has won five of the seven Ryder Cups he has competed in and took four points from five matches at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club.
After Saturday's fourballs, McIlroy was involved in a heated row with a couple of caddies in the car park following an incident on the 18th green, but will he be able to keep his cool in the heat of this week's battle?
The Panel, fresh from delivering a 100/1 each-way pay-out on Guido Migliozzi at the French Open, have cast their eyes over some of the markets involving McIlroy and picked out a few Ryder Cup tips worth considering over the three days.
McIlroy Ryder Cup Odds: Top Billing For Rory?
McIlroy was the top overall points scorer for the first time in Rome and he is 9/1 with Bet365 to finish top of the standings once again.
World number one Scottie Scheffler is the favourite at 11/2 with most golf betting sites, but could McIlroy do it once again?
It’s worth noting that a European player has produced the best individual record in four of the last five editions on American soil (Thomas Pieters in 2016, Ian Poulter 2012 and 2008, Sergio Garcia/Lee Westwood 2004) and four members of Mark James’ team shared that honour with Hall Sutton in 1999.
That would give encouragement to those who fancy McIlroy to emerge top of all 24 players.
McIlroy has played in every match bar two since his first Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor in 2010, so he has an advantage over many of the players competing in New York.
Bethpage Black is one of the toughest courses in the world and the adjective that usually accompanies it is “brutal”.
There is even a sign on the course preparing golfers for the challenge ahead.

If the length of this par-71 course were not enough at 7,468 yards, players have to contend with thick rough, tight fairways, multi-tiered greens and cavernous bunkers.
The 36-year-old from Holywood, County Down, has played here twice before in majors, finishing inside the top 10 at the 2009 US Open and the USPGA Championship six years ago, although on both occasions he finished over par.
McIlroy’s length off the tee will definitely be a bonus and he was one of only six members of the European team to have played here in 2019.
Back then, Matt Fitzpatrick (+7), Tyrrell Hatton (+8) and Tommy Fleetwood (+8) finished in mid-division, while Jon Rahm missed the cut altogether.

Fellow Irishman Shane Lowry shot three successive sub-70 rounds to finish in a share of eighth spot with McIlroy on +1 which is a sizeable gap on the others.
Of course, McIlroy cannot do it all on his own in this team event where he will be playing with a partner for 80% of the time.
However, two years ago he combined with Fitzpatrick (foursomes) and Fleetwood (fourballs), who recently won the Tour Championship, so he is surely in safe hands.
McIlroy looks tempting to be overall top scorer or 4/1 with Betfred to be clear leader in the European points table, but The Panel are looking elsewhere for the first of their Ryder Cup betting tips.
The five-time major winner is 11/8 with BoyleSports to score three or more points from his five matches and the evidence points towards him achieving that goal.
McIlroy is in sensational form, winning the recent Irish Open to add to his victories at Pebble Beach, The Players Championship and the US Masters across the water.
He has also scored at least three points in four of his last six Ryder Cup appearances, so the omens are good for another successful outing with his beloved European team-mates.

Rory To Make Winning Putt?
He is also at boosted odds of 25/1 with Bet365 to hole the winning putt at Bethpage Black, but The Panel’s advice is to give that market a wide berth where McIlroy is concerned.
The world number one will almost certainly be playing in one of the top three matches on Sunday, so even if he picks up a point, it is likely the Ryder Cup will still be alive and all to play for.
However, that brings The Panel neatly to the next of their Rory McIlroy Ryder Cup tips which is for him to be sent out first in the singles at 15/8 with Bet365.

That has been the case in three of the last four editions and in the last two events to be held in the USA (Whistling Straits 2021 and Hazeltine in 2016).
If Europe are behind heading into the final day, who better to send out in the opening match to lead the comeback than the continent’s most experienced player?

Rory McIlroy Ryder Cup Tips: Bryson Battle On Cards
Finally, The Panel would love to see McIlroy face Bryson DeChambeau in the singles on Sunday in what would be one of the great spectacles in sport.
Both players hit the ball a mile and there is potential for this to become as heated as McIlroy’s famed scrap with Patrick Reed nine years ago which the American won on the final hole.
McIlroy has been the leading spokesman against LIV Golf in the last few years and he did not speak to DeChambeau on the final day of this year’s triumph at Augusta.
It should be made clear the American was not being critical of McIlroy, whose response was that he was focusing on winning and not on being DeChambeau’s “best mate”.
There is potential for needle in what could be a potentially toxic atmosphere, but even if they do not go head to head, The Panel are behind McIlroy at 5/6 with Bet365 to win the points match-up between the players.
DeChambeau emerged as a clear winner at Whistling Straits (2.5-1), but he missed the cut by a couple of shots at the 2019 USPGA Championship.
The ‘Scientist’ had a reasonable year on the LIV Golf Tour, but he won just one tournament, in South Korea, and finished well behind Rahm and Joaquin Niemann in the individual points table.
Although he took 2.5 points four years ago, he only played three matches under Steve Stricker, so it will be interesting to see whether this year’s captain Bradley prefers to keep players fresh.
It would be a massive advantage if McIlroy gets to play two more matches than DeChambeau, but even if they both play the maximum five, the world’s second best player gets the nod.
