In some parts of the world, casinos never get very big, largely due to legislation that keeps their size and numbers in check. As a result, countries like France and the UK have a lot of casinos, but none of them are particularly large.

But that’s not the case in all countries and in particular in the USA and in Macau, where the largest casinos in the world can be found. 

Varied Product Offerings in Casinos Around the World

The product offering also varies from country to country, with a higher proportion of slot players in North American casinos, compared with Asian casinos, which usually have a higher concentration of table game players.

Most casinos are tailored to their customer base, but the legality of all products is not uniform. In some US states, sports betting is not legal and is therefore not available in casinos in California and Oklahoma.

Post-COVID upgrades and changes in business direction - generally towards entertainment and away from gaming - may have reduced gaming floor space at some properties, especially in the USA. 

Some space may still be in the process of being reclaimed and repurposed for catering and entertainment facilities within casinos that otherwise are still growing as resorts, but have more casino floor space than they need, even at full capacity.

What Defines the Largest Casinos?

We have used the following formula to determine which casinos are actually the biggest, ignoring overall floor space as the defining measurement. 

• Slot machines - We award 1 point for every slot machine on the property.
• Table games - Some types of table games have six seats, others as many as 12. We have averaged it out at eight seats per table game, so we multiply the number of table games at each property by eight.
• Poker room tables - We have multiplied the number of poker tables by nine, as most poker tables will seat up to nine players.

We have then added up all these scores to determine an Overall Gaming Capacity, which is the measurement we have used to curate this list.

Before we get into the full list with our new Overall Gaming Capacity ranking system, let’s look at the 10 biggest casinos in the world based solely on total square footage of gaming space.

Top 7 Largest Casinos in the World 

Having looked at the biggest casinos across the globe based on simple square footage, we will now dive a little deeper using our Overall Gaming Capacity metric.

1. The Venetian, Macau, China

The Venetian in Macau is the largest casino in the world, both by gaming floor space and the total number of gaming tables. It does not have as many slot games as some of its USA counterparts, but overall it has the largest gaming capacity in the world, with the ability to accommodate nearly 10,000 players at any one time.

Built in 2003, it is a larger version of the original in Las Vegas. It offers a wide variety of table games, including all the usual ones you might find in a western casino, as well as plenty of unique Chinese games.

Baccarat is by far the most popular game on offer, with over 300 of the 800 tables at the property devoted to the game, also known as Punto Banco.

The main gaming hall is vast and is divided into four distinct areas, each with a different theme - Golden Fish, Red Dragon, Imperial House and Phoenix. There are also some separate high roller and private gaming salons in other parts of the property.

Despite the overall size, there are only eight tables dedicated to poker cash games.

On the level above the casino floor, there is a shopping centre, similar to the ones you would find at the original Venetian, as well as the iconic Grand Canal, which is perfect for a photo opportunity on one of their famous gondola rides.

Unlike many casinos in Macau, the Venetian boasts a large hotel, with over 3,000 guest suites. 

2. WinStar World Casino, Oklahoma, USA

Open since 2003, the WinStar World Casino & Resort is owned and operated by the Chickasaw Nation and has been the largest casino in the world at various points in its 20+ year history.

Located in Thackerville, Oklahoma, it has been known to have housed over 10,000 of the best slots however, the resort is now focused on expanding its non-gaming offerings, with a lot of the space now re-designed.

There have been reports of there being more than 600,000 square feet of gaming space, however, the venue is currently operating at 519,000. This includes 7,500 slots and 100 gaming tables at the property, as well as a 47-table poker room and a bingo hall.

The casino is designed as a series of connected lobbies, each based on famous capital cities from around the world. These are: Paris, Cairo, London, New York, Madrid, Beijing, Rome, Vienna and Rio.

Slots is without doubt their main attraction, with the 7,500+ on-site making it the largest collection of slot machines anywhere in the world. This incredible range includes many versions of Top Dollar and Double Diamond, as well as Crazy Cherry Jubilee.

All of the other classic table games are also on offer, as are a large selection of catering and entertainment options, including a concert venue and a golf course.

3. Yaamava’ Resort San Bernardino, California, USA

Yaamava’ in San Bernardino first opened its doors in 1986, initially as a bingo hall. The property is an hour’s drive from southern Los Angeles and was originally known as San Manuel Indian Bingo.

After adding slots and casino games in 1994, it was renamed San Manuel Indian Bingo and Casino. However, in 2017 the bingo was removed to make way for more slot machines, allowing it to become the second largest slots casino in the world, with 7,200 across their vast floor space.

Although it has always been a huge slots parlour, the property has recently reinvented itself as a resort. In 2021, a hotel was added, with the name changing once again to Yaamava’ Resort & Casino.

The ambition of the property stretches far beyond casino games, with it now being positioned as an all-round entertainment destination. The latest addition was a 2,800-seat theatre, which was opened by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

While the casino caters well for recreational players and high rollers, it no longer offers a poker room, which closed its doors in 2019.

4. Marina Bay Sands, Singapore

From a gaming perspective, the casino boasts 1,500+ slot machines and 650 table games, as well as 31 poker tables in the Pavillion Poker Room.

The resort has no fewer than eight different hotels, with a combined 5,000 rooms, as well as an impressive amount of other amenities and facilities. Their huge ‘resort deck’ includes water rides and pools.

There is also a shopping promenade, with over 200 outlets and a convention centre for shows and conferences. Any foodies will not be disappointed, with over 120 catering options, including everything from Michelin-starred restaurants to McDonalds and KFC.

As already mentioned, the water activities are certainly a main attraction, including the world’s largest sky-top wave pool. There’s also a sandy beach, a rapids adventure and a dedicated kids zone.

6. Mohegan Sun, Connecticut, USA

The Crown in Melbourne is the biggest casino in Australia, with 220,000 square feet of gaming space. That space is populated by 2,500 slot machines, 440 gaming tables and 28 poker tables.

The venue was the home of the Australian Open Poker Championship, which took place every year until 2020, but has been on-hold ever since. There have been rumours that the event will eventually return, as Crown has recently begun spreading poker tournaments again after a two-year absence at the venue.

Even without poker, it is still the busiest casino in Australia, with a vast gaming floor and all the usual table games, such as blackjack, roulette and baccarat. It’s collection of slot machines is easily the biggest you will find in the country.
