Allwyn Appoints Ex-Betsson Chief Fredrik Ögren As Group CTO

Allwyn Appoints Ex-Betsson Chief Fredrik Ögren As Group CTO

Allwyn AG has appointed Fredrik Ögren as Group Chief Technology Officer, hiring the former Betsson Group technology chief to lead the lottery-led gaming group's digital transformation.

The Lucerne-headquartered company announced the move on October 6, 2026, with Ögren reporting directly to Kresimir Spajic, chief executive of Allwyn Digital.

Ögren joins after five years as Chief Technology Officer at Betsson Group, where he led the Swedish operator's technology strategy, oversaw the evolution of its large-scale platforms and supported its international growth across multiple regulated markets.

Allwyn said that experience would help it build a more connected and efficient technology ecosystem across its markets and central functions, strengthening platform capabilities and enhancing the customer experience.

Interim Chief Moves Into New Global Lottery Role

Brett Cross, who had served as Allwyn's interim Group CTO, moves into a newly created position as CTO, Global Lottery and Deputy Group CTO, reporting to Ögren.

Allwyn operates lotteries across several European markets, including the UK National Lottery, and created the dedicated Allwyn Digital division in September 2025 under Spajic, a former chief executive of Betfred USA, as digitisation became a priority for the wider group.

Executives Frame The Hire As A Platform Priority

Ögren said: "I am thrilled to be joining Allwyn at such an exciting stage in its growth journey. Technology plays a critical role in creating great player experiences, enabling innovation and supporting long-term business success. I look forward to working with colleagues across the Group to build an even more connected technology ecosystem, strengthen our capabilities and help deliver the next phase of Allwyn's growth."

Spajic said: "We're delighted to welcome Fredrik to Allwyn. He brings deep industry experience, strong technical expertise and a proven track record of leading technology transformation across global organisations. His appointment is an important step in building a more scalable technology platform across the Group, helping us deliver even better experiences for our customers and partners. I'd also like to thank Brett Cross for his leadership as interim Group CTO and congratulate him on his new role."

Why The Hire Matters

The appointment follows a broader pattern of lottery operators recruiting technology leaders with experience running large-scale regulated betting and online casino platforms, as digital channels capture an increasing share of lottery and gaming revenue.

Allwyn has not disclosed a start date for Ögren or detailed what changes to its technology roadmap will follow, beyond the stated goal of a more connected ecosystem across its markets.

Allwyn's own statement said the appointment is meant to help it create "a more connected and efficient technology ecosystem" that supports growth across the group, strengthens its markets and enhances the customer experience, rather than framing the hire around any single operational problem.

Both Spajic and Ögren's quotes emphasised platform capability and customer experience as the stated priorities for the restructured technology leadership, rather than cost.

Neither Allwyn nor Betsson Group has said who will succeed Ögren in his former role at Betsson, and Allwyn has not detailed what changes, if any, are planned for Allwyn Digital's existing technology contracts or vendor relationships as a result of the appointment.

The company has also not provided a start date for Ögren's day-to-day start in the Group CTO role.
