BETBY Report Finds Just 18.84% Of World Cup Bets Came Through Tournament Page

B2B sportsbook supplier BETBY has published a new report analysing how betting behaviour changed between the 2022 and 2026 FIFA World Cups, and what that means for operators during the current football season.

Tournament Pages Are A Small Slice Of The Action

Per BETBY's release, only 18.84% of World Cup bets arrived through the dedicated tournament page, while desktop accounted for 13.14% of World Cup players but drove 30.24% of turnover. Average stakes rose 2.96 times across the tournament.

The tournament reached four of the five players, yet generated less than half of all bets.

"It was everywhere, but it wasn't everything on the sportsbook", said Stefanos Karakidis, Business Development Director at BETBY. "That's why we set out to uncover the insights that many operators might otherwise overlook."

Esports Betting Filled The Gaps

The report found that in periods when World Cup betting activity slowed, BETBY's esports feed, Betby Games, maintained a constant betting cycle.

Kirill Nekrasov, Head of Innovation and R&D at BETBY, told SBC News: "Betby Games accounted for a meaningful share of total sportsbook activity during the tournament, while eWorld Cup helped our partners keep football content running during periods when the real schedule was quieter."

Applying The Data To The New Season

BETBY frames the report as a playbook for the football season now underway rather than a retrospective, covering match-result betting, player props, sportsbook features and promotional campaigns. "If you know where player attention is going to be, and you have the right content ready around it, you can extend engagement much further than the final whistle," Nekrasov said.
