BetHog To Close As FanDuel Founders Go All In On AI Live Dealer Studio

BetHog, the crypto casino and sportsbook founded by FanDuel co-founders Nigel Eccles and Rob Jones, are closing the consumer platform at the end of July 2026 to focus on Sentient Studios, their business-to-business AI live dealer product.

From Crypto Casino To AI Dealer Studio

"The move is driven by real market demand," the company said in a statement, adding that "Sentient Studios is the only company with an operational AI dealer product currently on the market." BetHog said its engineering team have already shifted to the studio and that "the underlying technology is being folded into Sentient Studios."

Sentient Studios launched in April 2026 alongside a $10 million Series A funding round. It is built around Sunny, an AI blackjack dealer BetHog introduced in late 2025, and it sells AI-run live tables to other operators on a revenue-share model with no setup fees. The company say several tier-one operators are in line to deploy the product later in 2026.

Can An AI Dealer Feel Authentic

The decision is a pointed one for anyone who plays live dealer casino games. Live tables exist precisely because a human croupier, streamed in real time, is the closest an online player gets to the feel of a land-based floor. Replacing that person with software removes the very thing that makes the format feel authentic, and it is fair to ask whether players will accept a dealer who was never real.

BetHog's answer is that many already prefer it. On launching Sentient Studios, Eccles said the AI dealer had proved "10x more popular than its live dealer equivalent" in testing, with better retention and player satisfaction. Whether that holds once the novelty fades, and once regulators examine how an AI dealer is certified as fair, is the open question the pivot rests on.

AI Is Reaching Players Too

The shift also lands inside a wider move toward AI across gambling. On the consumer side the technology is being used to make players sharper rather than to replace people, with tools such as the gambling.com bet creator helping bettors assemble and understand their own selections rather than lean on a tipster.

For operators, the appeal of an AI dealer is obvious. It runs continuously, needs no studio staffing and can be spun up in more languages at once, which is why the model has drawn early interest.

For players, the trade is atmosphere and trust against convenience and cost, and that balance has not yet been tested at scale.

What To Watch Next

What to watch next is how many operators actually put Sentient Studios' dealers live this year, and how gambling regulators treat an AI croupier under existing fairness and game-testing rules.

This could possibly undercut the big live casinos. But lets be honest do we really want AI dealers?

An AI dealer named 'Sunny' will never replace a real croupier for me. Half the point of live casino is a human on the other side.

Gutted, BetHog was one of the better crypto books. But an AI dealer studio is a smarter long-term bet.
