Ex-Caesars Executive Dan Real Launches AI Problem-Gambling Recovery App
Dan Real, who spent more than 28 years as a casino executive at Caesars, has launched Exclaim Recovery, a platform built around “Hope”, which the company describes as the world's first AI gambling harm recovery assistant.
A Personal Motivation
Real told CasinoBeats he experienced his own struggles with gambling during his time at Caesars while also using his position to help colleagues avoid harm.
He left his role in 2024 to build the platform. “I left my C-suite role at Caesars in 2024 to create a product that could help fill a critical gap in gambling harm support,” he said.
“Although more resources are beginning to emerge, we remain woefully short of high-quality tools that can scale and reach people who may never ask for help.”
How Hope Works
Real said Hope is available around the clock to offer “immediate, confidential and personalized support”, letting users talk through an urge to gamble, identify triggers, build a budget, track progress or simply express how they are feeling to what he calls “a compassionate, nonjudgmental presence.”
He said that accessibility matters most for people who are not yet ready to speak with a loved one, attend a meeting or contact a professional directly.
The app also links users to peer support, professional treatment, helplines and other recovery resources.
Not A Replacement For Therapy
Real was clear that Hope is designed to complement, not replace, human support.
“Hope is not intended to replace therapists, clinicians, or human connection,” he said.
“It is designed to complement them and help close the gap between the moment someone realizes they need support and the moment they receive it.”
Real said he believes users who spend just ten minutes on the app will quickly see its potential to help protect careers, relationships and lives at scale.
Part Of A Wider Trend
Exclaim Recovery first launched its app on the App Store earlier this year.
It joins a small but growing field of AI-assisted problem-gambling tools; CasinoBeats has separately reported on recovered problem gambler Sal Guarino discussing Evive, another app aiming to connect people experiencing gambling harm with support services.
Exclaim Recovery's app is now available for download, with Real positioning the wider rollout of Hope as the next phase of the company's push to reach people who might otherwise never seek help through a traditional helpline or an in-person meeting.
Real's background as a long-serving casino executive, rather than a clinician or technologist by training, is part of how he has positioned Exclaim Recovery in interviews, framing the app as built on direct experience within the industry it aims to support.
