Former Camelot Chief Nigel Railton Named RMG Chair

Railton currently chairs Post Office Ltd, a role he has held since May 2024 while leading the organisation's transformation programme and stakeholder rebuilding efforts. He is also a trustee of The Social Mobility Foundation.

He spent more than five years as chief executive of Camelot UK, where RMG said he oversaw a significant business turnaround, sustained sales growth, record returns to good causes and the expansion of the National Lottery's digital operations. 

Before that, he was chief executive of Camelot Global, where he built the international lottery business and secured contracts in Ireland, Europe and the United States. 

Earlier in his career, Railton, a qualified accountant, held senior finance, operations and strategy roles at Railtrack, Black & Decker and Daewoo Cars.

James Sanderson, RMG non-executive director, said Railton brought an outstanding blend of commercial leadership, governance experience and strategic vision gained through a career leading some of the UK's most recognisable and highly regulated organisations. "His track record of delivering growth, embracing innovation and building strong relationships with stakeholders makes him an ideal fit for RMG and our shareholder racecourses," Sanderson said.

Railton said he was delighted to be appointed chair of a highly respected organisation with a proven record of delivering value for its shareholder racecourses. 

"The media landscape continues to evolve rapidly, creating both opportunities and challenges," he said. "I look forward to working with the Board, Nick Mills and the wider team to build on the company's success, strengthen its partnerships and support the long-term growth and sustainability of racing."

RMG chief executive Nick Mills thanked Grant for what he called a significant and lasting contribution to the business over the past three years. "At the same time, we are thrilled to welcome Nigel to RMG," Mills said. 

"I look forward to working with him as we continue to grow our audiences, strengthen our partnerships and maximise value for our racecourses."

Grant, a former Flutter UK & Ireland chief executive, first joined RMG's board in April 2023 before becoming chair that October. 

His departure and Railton's arrival on October 1 mark the second change of chair at RMG in under three years, following Roger Lewis's exit at the end of 2023.
