Are Next James Bond Theme Tune Odds Right About Ed Sheeran?

Bond 25 has finally been given a title, No Time To Die, but who will be singing the theme tune when fans flock to cinemas for its release in April 2020?

Acts like Alicia Keys, Jack White, Sam Smith and Adele have all performed the James Bond theme tune during the Daniel Craig era, and the latter two again feature in the betting.

Favourite though with the specials bookmakers in the James Bond theme tune odds is Ed Sheehan, who admitted to Ireland's The Late Late Show that he has already written a Bond song, just in case he gets the call up.

Manager Stuart Camp told Radio Times in August that they had expressed interest in joining the team when they met Bond boss Barbara Broccoli in Dublin two years ago.

Nothing came of that chat, but Camp said that Sheeran is still keen and that he asks about the Bond song "every day".

Betway make Sheeran 6/4 favourite to get that call, as his schedule opens up - he's just heading out on an 18-month break from touring following the two-year Divide Tour.

What About Dua Lipa's Chances Of Being Bond Singer?

Ed Sheeran is clearly the front-runner in the race to be the next James Bond theme tune singer, if the betting is to be believed, but a close second is Dua Lipa.

The British artist, who won a Brit Award earlier this year for "One Kiss" with Calvin Harris, has been talked about as the No Time To Die singer for over a year.

She responded to the rumours in May, 2018, telling Billboard: “I’m not recording it…so far…I don’t want to jinx it. I would love to do it.”

However, Sam Smith, who won an Oscar for his track Writing On The Wall in the last Bond Movie, has tipped Dua Lipa to get the gig.

Speaking to Metro, he said: "I’d love Dua to do it. Remember that Madonna Bond song (2002’s Die Another Day), it’s so good. If Dua could do something like that..."

Elton John Might Finally Get Bond Theme Gig

Though Smith was keen on Dua Lipa performing the next James Bond theme song, the artist he would give the job to would be current 33/1 long-shot Elton John.

"I actually think Elton John should do it," he said. "He has never done it which is crazy to me. He is still the most incredible singer so one day I think he should do it."

John, now 72, received three nominations at the 1994 Oscars for songs in his most acclaimed film soundtrack, The Lion King, Can You Feel The Love Tonight winning Best Song there, at the Golden Globes, and scoring at the 37th Grammy Awards.

His work on film Aida earned him the 2000 Tony for Best Original Score, and he has also composed for Billy Elliot, the film and stage adaptation.

Betting Says Adele Could Get Second Bond

Adele, who wrote and performed Skyfall for the 2012 film of the same name, has not yet been ruled out from getting her second James Bond theme tune call up.

The 'Hello' hitmaker won an Oscar, Golden Globe, Brit and Grammy for Skyfall, and said afterwards that she would not want to do another 007 song because she "wouldn't want to jinx it."

She is third in the betting right now, sitting in behind the clear odds leaders, and well clear of the rest in the James Bond theme tune markets, though there has only been one artist to get a second Bond song.

Shirley Bassey, famous for singing the hit Goldfinger for the Bond with the same title in 1965, in fact sang two more Bond theme tunes. She came back in 1971 to sing Diamond Are Forever, and in 1979 for Moonraker.

If Adele is to be the next James Bond theme tune performer, we should find out soon, leaving only one final mystery to be solved: Who will replace Daniel Craig as the next James Bond post-Bond 25?
