NBA, WNBA Launch Betting Safety Campaign

The NBA and WNBA have launched a new responsible gambling campaign with the National Council on Problem Gambling aimed at educating fans, particularly young adults, about the risks of sports betting and prediction markets.
According to the leagues' own announcement, the campaign launches during the 2026-27 NBA season and will run a new spot across social and linear platforms on NBA and WNBA-owned and partner channels.
The campaign encourages fans who choose to bet or trade on prediction markets to understand the risks, set limits on time and money spent, avoid risking money they cannot afford to lose, and seek support if their participation becomes hard to manage.
Working with the NCPG, the leagues will direct fans to responsible gambling education and resources.
Campaign Explicitly Groups In Prediction Markets
Notably, the campaign treats sports betting and prediction markets as carrying the same category of risk.
It will tell fans that whether they are placing a sports bet or trading on a prediction market, both activities can put them at meaningful risk when not done responsibly, and that the impact can extend beyond finances to mental wellbeing and relationships.
WNBA chief growth officer Colie Edison said the aim is to give fans practical guidance on understanding financial risk, setting limits, and recognising when and where to seek help.
Entertainment Over Income
The leagues' decision to call out prediction markets by name lands as the category faces wider regulatory scrutiny across the US.
The campaign also stresses that no matter how much a fan thinks they know about a sport or a market, their money is at risk, and that participation should be for entertainment rather than as a way to generate income.
