South Korea's Record Foreign Arrivals Point To Stronger Casino Trade
South Korea welcomed a record 15.05 million foreign visitors between January and August 2026, the Korea Tourism Organization said on September 28, up 21.6% from 12.38 million over the same period last year, a tourism surge that is already lifting the country's foreigner-only casino sector.
A Record August
August alone drew about 2.25 million foreign arrivals, up 23.3% year on year and the second straight monthly record after July's 2.09 million, according to the tourism body's figures.
Both the monthly and cumulative totals are the highest since South Korea began keeping comparable records.
The tourism body attributed the growth to expanded flight capacity, a weaker won and stronger demand from short-haul markets including China and Japan.

What It Means For Korea's Foreigner-Only Casinos
South Korean law bars its own citizens from most casinos, so operators including Paradise Co., Grand Korea Leisure and Lotte Tour Development rely almost entirely on inbound foreign visitors for gaming revenue.
Those operators have already reported renewed momentum this year as Chinese group travel recovers, with analysts at Shinhan Securities telling The Korea Times in July that inbound tourism gains were feeding directly through into casino visitor numbers and spend.
A continued rise in foreign arrivals through the rest of 2026 would extend that trend into the peak autumn travel season.
