Tencent Esports Outlines Ten-Year Asian Games Tech Plan

Tencent Esports says its technology is meant to outlast a single tournament, after the Esports Competition Solution (ECS) ran across all 11 esports events at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
A Tencent director spoke about the project and the company's ten-year plan with the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) in an interview published by esports.gg on October 21, 2026.
Tencent's own release on the Games lists Yati Zhang as its director of esports, who is also the OCA's esports manager.
She said the discussion has moved on from whether esports belongs at the Asian Games to how it can be run at scale inside a multi-sport event.
What The ECS Does
According to Tencent's September 22 release, the ECS supports referees and operations teams from pre-match checks through to post-match review.
The Games ran from September 22 to October 2 at Hall D of the Aichi Sky Expo, with 11 events across six game categories and multiple publishers.
The system works in three stages. An Inspection Station checks player peripherals, devices and the competition environment before a match.
A Monitoring Console tracks more than 30 indicators in real time, including device and network status, and pulls together video feeds such as player point-of-view, observer view, and hand camera.
A Review Room then gives officials match records and footage for post-match review.
Fair Play And Officiating
In the interview, Zhang said the tool helps referees assess player reports or unexpected incidents using recorded gameplay footage and data.
It is also built to address issues that affect fair play, including network instability, device malfunctions, display latency and unauthorised third-party software.
That matters for anyone who bets on esports, because integrity and consistent officiating underpin trust in results.
Tencent's release says the ECS turns work that relied on manual experience, such as equipment checks and live monitoring, into processes that can be recorded, traced and reviewed.
Track Record And Testing
Tencent says its technical team supported 217 matches with zero technical incidents at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou.
Before the Japan event, the ECS conducted three test events in Japan, Singapore, and Vietnam between January and June 2026, followed by integrated system testing at the venue.
The Ten-Year Plan
Tencent Esports became the OCA's Official Esports Technology Partner under a ten-year strategic partnership announced on January 22, 2026.
The deal was formalised through a memorandum of understanding signed at the OCA Executive Board Meeting in Bahrain in October 2025. Tencent's own release also describes the partnership as running from 2025 to 2035.
Zhang said the focus over the next decade is on better competition systems, technical standards, operational best practices and technology infrastructure.
She also pointed to the need for career paths beyond playing, such as referees, tournament administrators, competition operations staff and technical specialists.
OCA Director General Husain Al-Musallam said in the release that he hopes the collaboration will help establish an Asian benchmark for the sport.
