Virginia Temporary Casino Generates $4.7M In First 10 Days
Virginia’s newest gaming venue, the temporary Live! Casino & Hotel Virginia, generated approximately $4.7million in its first 10 days of operation, signaling clear demand for casino gaming in the region.
The interim site was open and generating revenue during the final 10 days of January 2026.
Although Petersburg operated for only part of the month, it made a notable contribution to Virginia’s total casino gaming revenue, which reached $81m in January.
As the market expands, some players continue to split their time between retail casinos and the best online casinos available through regulated platforms.
Based on January’s performance, $14.6m in tax revenue was allocated to the Virginia Gaming Proceeds Fund, underscoring the growing importance of commercial casinos to the Commonwealth’s economy.
Strong Early Performance
The temporary gaming hall on Wagner Road opened with 926 slot machines and 32 table games. Slots generated about $3.9m, while table games produced roughly $800,000.

January Revenue Across Virginia Casinos
Virginia currently has five operational casinos, with established properties continuing to generate the bulk of statewide revenue.
In January, Caesars Virginia in Danville led with $30.5m, followed by Rivers Casino Portsmouth at $25.2m. Hard Rock Bristol reported $19.5m, consistent with recent performance but down from $23.5m in December.
Live! Petersburg ranked fourth with $4.7m in its first few weeks, while the temporary gaming facility in Norfolk generated $1m, primarily from slots.
The addition of Live! Petersburg and the Norfolk temporary site expands Virginia’s casino footprint following the legalization of full-scale casinos in 2020.
Full-service resort casinos are already operating in Danville, Portsmouth and Bristol, with larger developments under way in both Norfolk and Petersburg.
