Wilfried Zaha Next Club Odds: Chelsea Favourites To Snap Him Up

Wilfried Zaha has less than a year to run on his Crystal Palace contract, and betting sites believe he could finally be about to leave the club.

The Ivory Coast international is widely regarded as Palace’s greatest ever player, and the south London side still retain hope that he will sign a new deal at Selhurst Park.

However, given that Zaha has regularly tried to depart in recent years, a more probable outcome is that he will be plying his trade elsewhere at the start of next season.

Palace could be placed in a difficult position if the 29-year-old makes it clear before the turn of the year that he has no intention of signing fresh terms

The club would then face the tough decision of whether to cash in on their star man in January, or keep hold of him for the remainder of the campaign before a Bosman exit next summer.

Let’s take a look at the market for a January deal and consider where Zaha might end up if he does seek pastures new in the winter window.

Chelsea At Front Of The Queue To Land Forward

Chelsea pondered a move for Zaha towards the end of the summer transfer window, but they did not submit an official bid.

At 8/1 with football football betting sites, the Blues are considered the favourites to land the attacker in January, but there is a degree of uncertainty following the recent change of manager at Stamford Bridge.

Graham Potter will not be the sole driver of the club’s recruitment policy going forward, but he will no doubt have a large say in which players Chelsea target.

It is more likely than not that the west Londoners pursue a new forward at some point in the next 12 months.

Zaha will either be available for a knockdown price in January or for free in July, but we cannot rule out the possibility that Potter prefers other wide men.

Would Zaha Consider A Move Overseas?

Zaha’s move to Manchester United earlier in his career did not work out for a number of reasons.

Chief among them is the fact that Alex Ferguson’s final signing did not get the chance to work with the long-serving boss, whose replacement David Moyes did not seem to rate Zaha as highly as his fellow Scot.

There are also suggestions that the youngster struggled to adapt to life away from London, where he was raised after moving to the city with his family aged four.

The 29-year-old is much more mature these days, but he would probably prefer to stay in the Premier League rather than join a team in Italy, France, Germany or Spain, possibilities which are equally priced at 12/1 each with betting apps.

Arsenal Could Renew Interest In Boyhood Fan

Mikel Arteta

Also priced at 12/1 by BetVictor are Arsenal, who pushed hard to sign Zaha in 2019 before ultimately settling for Nicolas Pepe, his international team-mate.

The Gunners had to pay a club-record fee of £72m for Pepe after being priced out of a deal for Zaha; given his contractual status, the Palace star will surely be available for a much more modest fee in January.

Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli are guaranteed starters on the flanks at present, but Zaha would provide further attacking depth, plus the ability to play through the middle if needed.

If Arsenal are in a strong position in January, Mikel Arteta might be able to push for a big deal or two.

But much will depend on Palace, who could decide to keep Zaha until the summer at all costs.

Tottenham Have Pursued Zaha In The Past

Tottenham also tried to sign Zaha in the past, but their £12m bid in 2016 was dismissed as “ridiculous” by chairman Steve Parish. “I can’t imagine that they’re serious,” he added.

Like their north London rivals, Tottenham will also be pleased with the way they have started the campaign - and Antonio Conte will no doubt push Daniel Levy for more backing in the winter window.

Yet Spurs are already juggling four attackers who want to be starting week in, week out. Adding a fifth in Zaha is unlikely, hence odds of 14/1

Although, we are sure Harry Kane wouldn't mind another attacking opinion to provide assists for him.

Newcastle, also available at 14/1, would struggle to land the Ivory Coast international in January.

Zaha will be 30 by then and is desperate to play Champions League football, something the Magpies will not be able to offer him just yet.

Palace, you feel, would also be more reluctant to sell him to Newcastle than the likes of Chelsea or Arsenal.
